Beck to release new album this summer

image not available

Let's do a quick rundown of a few of Beck's buddies/coworkers: Jack White, Danger Mouse, Radiohead... notice a connecting thread? Word started spreading on Monday that Beck would be "pulling a Radiohead/Raconteurs/Gnarls Barkley" and dropping some new pollution in the very near future either digitally or corporeally. Beck, who’s been cool for so long that the children have taken to calling him Grandpa Hipster, will release a new song next week. The self-produced “Timebomb” will be available on iTunes on August 21, and at other online music providers on August 28. The song is Beck’s first output since 2006’s The Information, and will have to sate us for now, as reports tell us that no more recordings are in the works for the foreseeable future. The Impenetrable Beck Hansen

Four mysterious figures in identical black shirts stand behind a draped box as the house lights at the Shepherds Bush Empire in West London go down. When the spotlights flash on, Beck Hansen—dressed in a waistcoat, with a farmer’s hat over his lank hair—storms out from stage right as the instantly recognizable opening chords of his mid-’90s breakthrough hit “Loser” ring out. The curtain over the aforementioned box is suddenly lifted, revealing a miniature theatre. Turns out the four unknowns aren’t covert agents, backup singers or even stagehands—they’re puppeteers. On the tiny stage beneath them, six-inch-tall marionette replicas of the...  read more
