No matter how well Beck’s new album, The Information , does in its first week of sales in UK, it will not be on the charts. There has been a ludicrous ruling by the UK’s official Chart Company. The OCC claims that The Information ’s packaging, which includes stickers that allow buyers to create their own covers, give Beck’s album an "unfair advantage" over other albums released. This preposterous reasoning ignores the declining amount of music buyers and the next marketing steps that artists might have to take in order to promote the consumption of actual albums, rather than ripping... read more

Beck will follow up last year's Guero success with new album The Information, out Oct. 3. The Information is 15 tracks with accompanying homemade videos on DVD, which were shot in the studio during recording. According to a report at www.DennisYang.com, Beck recently performed unannounced at Pancho Villa, a taqueria in San Fransisco. Apparently, the chameleonesque musician was largely ignored as he played in the back where a traditional mariachi musician usually performs. The following night, July 18, Beck headlined a show with Le Tigre at San Fransisco's Bill Graham Civic Center. ... read more

"Frontin' On Debra"—the hybrid of Beck's "Debra" (from 1999's Midnight Vultures) and Pharrell Williams and Jay-Z's "Frontin'" (from 2003's The Neptunes Present: Clones)—was concocted by the New York-based DJ Reset. The song is the first commercially released mash-up (a technique that's been popular with the filesharing public for a while, but had yet to see a mainstream push until now). Interscope released the track via iTunes on Oct. 12 and it's now the sites #27 most downloaded song. Pictured L-R: Beck, Pharrell Williams and Jay-Z. Beck photo by Charlie Gross. ... read more
