Jay Sweet talks Bonnaroo and more with Boston's Fox 25

Back from the land of six-dollar beer, port-o-potties and hippie folk, Paste editor-at-large Jay Sweet appeared this morning on Boston's Fox 25 to wrap up the highlights of  Bonnaroo 2008. ...  read more

Bonnaroo 2008: Day 3

image not available

Apologies: I was unable to blog about Saturday at Bonnaroo because of Saturday at Bonnaroo. It's Sunday afternoon now, and with the festival still buzzing and thumping all around us (am currently at our tent in the Sonic Village, with a band called Harrybu McCage doing their thing on the stage next door) I'm just now getting around to processing everything from the past thirty-something hours. ...  read more

Rhymes With Five: Bonnaroo! Excitement!

image not available

Bonnaroo starts tonight! And I'm going! And I've never gone! And I'm pretty excited but also scared that I might pass out in the heat! Or get struck by lightning! Or just get really overwhelmed and curl up in a sweaty ball at the back of the Paste tent! I hope there's a falafel vendor! I love falafel! Oh my god! Bonnaroo! So excited!...  read more

Kanye, Common, Method & Redman sued over jazz sample

Kanye, Common, Method & Redman sued over jazz sample

Here's the worst pitfall of hip-hop producing—creatively re-purposing intellectual property always carries the risk of a fat ol' lawsuit from a sampled musician. In the latest case of rap sample litigation, it's the estate of a dead musician claiming punitive damages for sampling without permission....  read more

Kanye West launches travel site, hangs out with Muppets

image not available

Have you ever tried to make a plane, hotel or car reservation and thought “Man, I wish this was brokered through a third party medium not represented by Captain Kirk or a creepy lawn gnome?” Neither have we, but now you can thanks to Kanye West's new travel site. Kanye Travel Ventures is roughly the same type of service offered by most web based travel agencies, only with the added bonus of being brought to you by Mr. West. Currently there is no option to add concert tickets to the mix, but according to Advertising Age, trips with tickets and...  read more

Kanye West reveals tour dates, hangs out in car trunk

What better way to celebrate the day after Valentine's Day (take that, Hallmark!) than with a viewing of the new Kanye West "Flashing Lights" video? Why, this Spike Jonze/Kanye-directed clip has everything you and your sweetie need for the day after a night of romance: a roasty-toasty fire, a Playboy model in skimpy lingerie, a speedy automobile, some light bondage (for the adventurous lovers)—and...wait, she stabs Kanye with a shovel at the end? And then the screen abruptly cuts to black? Before the song's even over? On second thought, maybe scrap that whole video-watching idea and consider presenting your...  read more

Kanye West brings Daft Punk to Grammys, searches 'Net

image not available

Kanye West, already a multiple Grammy-award winner, took home four more mini-gramophones at the 50th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night. West's latest, Graduation, earned him the Best Rap Album title (his third for as many albums) but failed to snag Album of the Year—also for the third time. This year, however, Kanye didn't waste precious airtime railing against the dubious Grammy voting system. He swiftly shut up any potential detractors with an electrifying (and electrified) performance of his Daft Punk-sampling hit "Stronger," wherein a giant pyramid opened up during the bridge of the song to reveal the mysterious French...  read more

Kanye to take Rihanna, N.E.R.D., Lupe Fiasco on tour

image not available

Kanye West announced via his blog last Tuesday that his upcoming Glow In The Dark tour will feature fellow luminaries Rihanna, N.E.R.D. and Lupe Fiasco. Collaboration between these groups isn't a new thing, as the three frontmen involved, West, Lupe Fiasco and Pharrell Williams of N.E.R.D., make up side project CRS (Child Rebel Soldier). The blog entry, brashly entitled "The End of the World As You Know It!!!!" also reveals the very neon tour poster pictured above. When, exactly, the world as we know it will end has yet to be announced (though ChildRebelSoldier.wordpress.com says April). His hand-picked cohorts will...  read more

Kanye, Winehouse lead Grammy nominations pack

image not available

At the start of each new year, it's always helpful to remind yourself of a few certainties: * Death * Taxes * Disappointing Grammy nominations The Grammy selections committee prides itself on working to please everyone (young, old, mainstream, elitist) with its nominations. But that usually means your favorite artists won't have a shot unless they enjoy a certain level of notoriety (read: record sales). So gripe all you want; this is the system as we know it. And for what it's worth, there are always bright spots. Speaking of which, if you happen to be enamored with Kanye West...  read more

Kanye West, Evel Knievel resolve video beef

image not available

Okay, so maybe the blog hounds at Stereogum beat us to the punch on this one, but the above photo deserves to be circulated to every corner of the Internet. As some of you readers may recall, Evel Knievel sued Kanye West last year for appropriating his likeness in the high-wire video for West’s “Touch The Sky.” It was the classic case of adding injury to insult – the million-dollar, Pamela Anderson-featuring video had just lost at the 2006 MTV Europe Video Awards to a couple of unknown artists named Justice and Simian. Kanye did not take the first slight...  read more
