Extinct, they ain’t. Sure, the ATLien metalmen of Mastodon may bear the name of that most hoary of prehistoric mammals, but record snowfalls or freezing temperatures can’t slow their thunderous pace. Their 2009 LP Crack the Skye appeared on just about every year-end list last year (including ours). Then, we found out the guys would be contributing music to the upcoming flick Jonah Hex—as in, the whole score. What, then, to do with a few spare moments of free time?
