Cee-Lo is best known by hipsters these days as the vocal half o Justin Nozuka Justin Nozuka is a name that you will be hearing a lot in the coming months. A Canadian of Japanese and American descent who’s still just 19 years old, he comes across as a bizarre blend of Michael Jackson and Jeff Buckley...in a good way. His set at Tatou was a stunner, and certainly a harbinger of great things to come. Nozuka has a gift of being sensitive without cloying, pleading without whining. His vocals have a beautifully immediate quality; there’s no artifice to be...  read more

The 10 Best Hip-Hop Songs VH1 Forgot

image not available

VH1 just announced the “100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs Ever!!!” and the list isn’t terrible. It’s actually pretty good. They have Public Enemy's “Fight The Power” in the right place (# 1), they identified the best Notorious B.I.G. song (“Juicy”) and, apart from the egregious inclusion of Coolio (at #38 with the horrendous “Gangsta’s Paradise”), they don’t have a lot of embarrassing inclusions. But they did forget some amazing tracks. Here, in 10 words or less, we make the case for the 10 best hip-hop songs VH1 forgot. They may not trump “Fight They Power,” but they’re all better than anything...  read more

Andre 3000 says solo album due soon

Andre 3000 says solo album due soon

So, technically, OutKast members Andre 3000 and Big Boi have both already made solo albums. The incredibly-successful 2003 Speakerboxx/The Love Below double CD was, if you recall, two separate solo CDs bundled together under the OutKast name. So the fact that Rolling Stone has reported that Andre 3000 will drop his new solo album soon shouldn't be that surprising. ...  read more

Outkast talks new album in 2009

image not available

There is a debate of sorts concerning when the last true Outkast album was released. Was it 2006’s Idlewild soundtrack, or does it go all the way back to 2000's Stankonia? And can you really count 2003’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below as an Outkast album since it was just two solo albums packaged together? Gah. It’s time to call the whole thing off, though, because a new Outkast album (keyword: collaborative) will be out in the beginning of 2009. In an interview with MTV News, Big Boi told the network, “Outkast are stronger than ever,” and laughed about any rumors...  read more

Outkast's Big Boi and Andre 3000 reunite on “Royal Flush”

image not available

Ever since Idlewild (sort of) brought them back together, these have been the wandering days of Outkast. Each half of the duo had gone off on his separate path, enduring the trials of celebrity on the lengthy journey toward spiritual self-discovery. Big Boi found his calling in the ballet, while Andre 3000 rekindled his lifelong passion for fashion. The idea of these two collaborating again seemed to grow increasingly distant. Unfortunately, even the sun goes down, heroes eventually die, horoscopes often lie... But don’t close the curtain just yet. After promising a new single for New Years Day, Big Boi...  read more
