Neko Case Duets With Meatwad, Announces Nov. Tour
Looks like Neko Case's cyclone is picking up some speed. The Canadian (brain fart, sorry folks!) alt.country chanteuse, whose gorgeous, lush album Middle Cyclone hit #3 on Billboard in the spring, has been gaining momentum all year. The one-time Paste cover star just announced a fall tour that'll take her all over the country.... read more

A Mastodon tour is cool enough on its own. The thunderous riffs and progged-out guitars of the Atlanta-based quartet should satisfy the appetite of the most insatiable long-tressed, spike-belt-wearing, potentially-wizard-beard-possessing metalhead. But the key with metal is that old saw "too much is never enough." Good thing the architects of Mastodon's upcoming tour understand that wisdom, because they've gilded the proverbial lily, painted it black, and set it on fire with pentatonic chords screaming in the background. Yes, that's right: Brendon Small and company will don the mantles of Metalocalypse's semi-fictional Dethklok to co-headline Mastodon's tour.... read more

Just because their mostly-fictional television home is on hold until the fall doesn't mean that Dethklok is taking a break. With an upcoming new album and a soon-to-be-announced video game, the bone-crushing cartoon metal band seem to be moving on from simple world domination to total universe tyranny.... read more

Sure, we all know that Dethklok is the most brutal, not-quite-fictional metal band this side of Cannibal Corpse, but their mastery of the dark arts of shredding won't just magically be passed on to the next generation. Someone has to train the youth in finger tapping, proper care of long hair, and the do's and don't's of spiked leather (one wonders if there's a minimum age on the pain waivers.) And who better than Metalocalypse creator/songwriter Brendon Small, who just announced a tour with the Paul Green Rock Academy?... read more

Everybody's favorite absurdist comedian (well, ours anyway), Zach Galifianakis, announced last night via his e-mail newsletter that he'll be playing a short set tonight (Feb. 5) at the UCB theatre in New York City. Known as Variety Shac, the show will also feature, according to the newsletter, "some wonderful ladies that are too fun to describe." Admission is $5 (!) and though advance reservations are sold out, there will be a stand-by line.... read more
Found in: Culture, NewsMetalocalypse: Season Two coming to DVD Dec. 2
Although the animated band is almost creepily popular in real life, the fictional Dethklok of Adult Swim remains our favorite face of bombastic, vaguely evil death-metal superstardom. They may not be able to boil an egg, but so extensive is their celebrity on Metalocalypse that it defies human conception—and often gets their fans killed.... read more
Found in: Movies, NewsBanned Boondocks episodes eviscerate BET on DVD
Anyone who's followed The Boondocks as a comic strip or TV show knows that a few things consistently tick off creator Aaron McGruder: blind patriotism, faux-gangsta posturing, and Black Entertainment Television. As for that last item... read more

On Sunday (April 20), the record label Ghostly International digitally released its collaboration with Adult Swim, those purveyors of late night animation entertainment, called Ghostly Swim. It's a "genre-busting" collection of 19 songs, the label writes in a statement. The free compilation includes tracks from the label's artists and friends, including Matthew Dear, Dabrye, Tycho, Aeroc, The Chap, School of Seven Bells, Deastro, Milosh, FLYamSAM and Dark Party. Did you know there's a right way to rock? And a wrong way to roll? Casey and his brother have all the answers. Didya click that link and watch the video? Feel confused? Maybe a little agitated? How about elated? The Cartoon Network's late-night Adult Swim programming can be a bit polarizing, to say the least. Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim are the creators of Casey and his brother, who are a few of many zany characters from Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, the only live-action show currently on the Adult Swim roster. Awesome Show combines choppy public-access-style... read more
