The Americana Music Association announced some of the performers for the 2004 Americana Honors & Awards, scheduled for Sept. 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Nashville Convention Center during the 2004 Americana Music Conference.
Artists to perform during the show include Mindy Smith, Tony Joe White & Shelby Lynne (pictured top left), Jason Ringenberg (pictured top right), Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Chris Hillman (with Herb Pedersen, Bernie Leadon and Al Perkins), Mavis Staples, Pete Anderson & Michelle Shocked, and Slaid Cleaves with Ray Wylie Hubbard. The show will honor merit and achievement within the Americana music genre with five annual awards in the categories of Artist, Album, Song, Instrumentalist and the newly created New/Emerging artist of the year. Five additional achievement awards will be presented during the show to individuals who have been tremendously influential to the Americana genre and industry. Jim Lauderdale will host the event.
This year Loretta Lynn and Mindy Smith each received three award nominations, followed by Rodney Crowell and Slaid Cleaves with two nominations each. Nominees for Album of the Year include Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose (Interscope); Mindy Smith - One Moment More (Vanguard); Rodney Crowell – Fate’s Right Hand (DMZ/Epic) and Slaid Cleaves - Wishbones (Philo). Nominees for Artist of the Year include Allison Moorer, Jim Lauderdale, Loretta Lynn and Patty Griffin.
The 5th annual Americana Conference will be held from Sept. 23-25 at the Nashville Convention Center, with evening showcases at the Mercy Lounge, Station Inn and 12th & Porter. The complete performance schedule with dates, venues and times is available online at www.americanamusic.org.
