If the name "Aziz Ansari" only faintly rings a bell, that's about to change. The Human Giant co-creater and star reprises his role in Flight of the Conchords with the second season, coming Jan. 2009 (he plays a racist fruit vendor who can't tell New Zealanders from Australians, for the uninitiated). He's soon joining the Judd Apatow comedy machine, appearing in Funny People, Observe and Report with Seth Rogen and I Love You, Man with Paul Rudd. He's starring in the upcoming sitcom from the writers of The Office with an SNL-departed Amy Poehler. And come this Fall/Winter, he's taking it on the road: his "Glow in the Dark" tour will pass through eight states before ending with a three-day stint at San Francisco's Punch Line Comedy Club.

Write this down: spin-offs are apparently the new black next season. We've got teen-soap spin-offs, cartoon spin-offs, and spin-offs we don't really know anything about.

Chances are, not many are as thankful for the revamping of the NBC sitcom than Aziz Ansari. In the past two weeks, Ansari has signed on for parts in not just one, but two, of the network’s comedies that once again made Thursday nights “Must See TV.”

The 10th annual Cinevegas Film Festival kicked off on Thursday with a screening of The Rocker starring Rainn Wilson and directed by Oscar-nominee Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty).  The director and star, along with costars Jane Lynch, Fred Armisen, Emma Stone, and Lonny Ross (30 Rock), were in attendance, as was Dennis Hopper (who serves as chairman of the festival's creative advisory board).

Comedian Aziz Ansari, or one-third of MTV's Human Giant whom we still fondly remember as an indie-clerk asshole, will be one of three new interns (i.e. fresh, tauntable meat for Dr. Cox) on Scrubs. TV Guide reports Ansari will join the Sacred Heart staff along with Betsy Beutler (The Black Donnellys) and Eliza Coupe (12 Miles of Bad Road). In an already nickname-riddled show, what's left for the noobs?
