T-Minus 10 Days Until Blueprint 3: Where in the World is Jay-Z?

We're so glad you asked! We're only a little more than a week away from the release of Jay-Z's eleventh (!!) studio album, Blueprint 3, which drops Sept. 11 on his Roc Nation label (if you just can't wait or don't know how to use the internet, MTV is currently streaming the whole album on The Leak). There's no doubt Hova is one of the hardest working men in the industry (remember, he's a business, man), but he's so busy we've barely been able to keep track of him. So, here's a brief primer on his late-summer exploits....  read more

Antony and the Johnsons Prep Beyonce Cover for Release

You would think jet-setting around Europe would keep Antony and the Johnsons sufficiently busy. But apparently teaming up with some of the most well-respected orchestras around the world on a multi-country tour promoting their latest album, The Crying Light, wasn't quite enough for the group. Later this summer, they will release the double A-side single "Aeon"/"Crazy in Love."...  read more

Seven Best Things About Beyonce's “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)”

Looks like we'll need to add one more item to perennial Brooklyn hip-hop veteran Mos Def's resume: rapper, actor, poet, band geek. Turns out that the mighty Mos has been doing some stuff with Mos Def's Big Band on the side since last year, namely a tribute to J Dilla. And, unlike other acts who've tried their hands at this with mixed results, they actually sound really good. Their next performance is on June 28 (with special guest Gil Scott-Heron!) at the JVC Jazz Festival in New York City. The event is described as "an evening of music and spoken...  read more

Beyoncé to play Etta James in Cadillac Records

image not available

In a shocking move, BeyoncĂ© Knowles has signed up to play a singer in a feature film! (We kid because we love.) Cadillac Records, the forthcoming Darnell Martin movie depicting the 1950s Chicago music scene and already boasting a cast featuring the likes of Adrien Brody, Jeffrey Wright and Cedric the Entertainer, has added another star to its musical ranks. Knowles has reportedly signed up to fill the shoes of multiple Grammy winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Etta James. James is best known for her #2 R&B chart hit single "At Last," which has itself, along...  read more
