Austin Film Festival 2009 Wrap Up
Jesco White and Hank Williams IIIThe Wild and Wonderful Whites of West VirginiaYou can have Jon and Kate, the Osbournes or the Kardashians. I'll take the Whites of Boone County, West Virginia for pure reality entertainment. Produced by the "Jackass" MTV folks the documentary follows these modern day hillbillies with their bent for crime. They make the Gotti mob look like the Osmonds. Openly using and selling drugs, milking the government entitlement system and maybe worst of all, giving their kids names like Cheyan and Tylor. Hank Williams III contributes some tunes with "Punch Fight Fuck!" being the appropriate theme song. Downtown CallingDowntown... read more

Chances are you've heard "Hanging On The Telephone." It's been covered by a number of artists, most notably Cat Power and Blondie. But the original was crafted by The Nerves, a '70s power-pop group that only released an EP but made enough of an impact people for to still be talking about them decades later. Now, Alive Records has announced it will release the first full-length from the group (with its blessing), entitled One Way Ticket. It hits stores Nov. 25.... read more

They say it's not what you know, but who you know. It seems Fall Out Boy has taken this rule to heart on its upcoming record, Folie à Deux. In an e-mail exchange with MTV News, fab FOB frontman Pete Wentz confirmed that the band has scored guest spots from Lil Wayne and Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry for its upcoming record, set for release in November. Wentz also confirmed that workhorse producer Pharrell contributes a track to the album. We'd like to say this is Debbie Harry's strangest collaboration, but if you'll recall, she did that track with Mobb Deep and Coolio in... read more

Recently in the Paste office, we received a press release about an Oct. 6 event called Gimme Shelter, which will feature Debbie Harry, Moby and Earl Greyhound, and which was described as a “concert benefiting NYC’s at-risk animals.” Being dog-owners ourselves, we were moved by the whole idea—moved, that is, to commemorate Gimme Shelter with a list of other significant collaborations between musicians and animals. We’re sure we missed some good ones. Add yours in the comments.... read more

Are reports of punk rock's demise greatly exaggerated? Conflicting opinions on the subject abound both on the internet and off. The recent revamping of CBGB's East Village space into a pricey designer clothing store has perhaps given additional heft to one side of the argument. Now, the iconic Debbie Harry has re-emerged with her band that sprang from that particular late '70s scene. Contrary to Harry's announcement two years ago that Blondie's tour with The Cars would be its last, the band's new trek kicks off in early June. Dates: June 5 - Baltimore, Md. @ Ram's Head Live 6... read more
