Available now, Shout! Factory has released a 4-DVD set of The Johnny Cash Christmas Specials 1976-1979. While '76 and '77 were released last year, the '78 and '79 specials are new and are available separately or as part of the box set. Included on the new set are Kris Kristofferson, Rita Coolidge, Steve Martin and Andy Kaufman, amongst others.

This Tuesday, Nov. 18, Mastodon fans will be able to wrap their giant tusks around a vinyl box set of the Atlanta band's entire discography. Hitting stores via Relapse Records, the collector's edition will be limited to a one-time, 1,000-copy pressing, complete with nine 180-gram LPs spanning the group's entire career, including the final vinyl pressing of the band's debut EP, Lifesblood, as well as covers of songs by the Melvins, Thin Lizzy and Metallica. Bonus swag includes an embroidered logo patch and a custom Mastodon turntable mat.

On Nov. 25, Nada Surf will release all five of its studio albums on vinyl, for the first time, in a big limited-edition box set. Only 1,000 are being made and they include the bands first 7" single, a full-color 24-page lyric and photo book, and download codes for MP3 versions of The Proximity Effect, Let Go, The Weight Is a Gift and Lucky as well as codes to rare and out-of-print b-sides and bonus tracks.

The Gonzo Tapes: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, a five-disc collection of Thompson’s frenzied ramblings, speed freakouts, and drug-addled insights into The American Psyche will see the light of day for the first time on Oct. 28. The tapes document what Thompsonites consider the high point of the Dr. of Journalism's career ('65-'75), featuring notes and interviews that led to Hell’s Angels and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, as well as numerous unfinished or aborted articles on disparate topics like Sigmund Freud's cocaine habit and the end of the Vietnam war. So expect a lot of unfiltered ramblings about acid freaks, the Death of the American Dream, marrywanna, and—of course—The Fear.

In a move that seems suspiciously fitted to its pun-triumphant name, a box set of avant-classical composer Philip Glass's work entitled, yes, Glass Box, will be released on Sept. 23 by Nonesuch Records.

How do you make one of the most brilliantly intricate, transcendent and weird hip-hop albums of all time even more complicated? Simple, give it more layers. And throw in a t-shirt or something.
