Psychedelic indie-rock band MGMT, however, has chosen a slightly different route: For their appearance on Fallon's show last night, they chose to commemorate the legacy of Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd's original lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter, with a cover of "Lucifer Sam" from the band's debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. read more

Bradford Cox announced today that he would be releasing a new album called Parallax under his solo project moniker, Atlas Sound. According to Pitchfork, Parallax will be released on November 8th and will be Atlas Sound's third album. Cox is also the frontman of the popular indie rock band, Deerhunter, who released their album, Halcyon Digest, last year. Logos, the forthcoming album from Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox's side project Atlas Sound, has a mildly turbulent backstory. After accidentally leaking an unmastered version to the internet, Cox spitefully declared that he would never finish the album, though he later rescinded the threat. A lot can change in a year; Logos is now set for an Oct. 20 release, and Atlas Sound will be hitting the road this month for a North American tour.... read more

After its accidental leak and legal iTunes debut in August, Deerhunter's Microcastle, perhaps the most anticipated album by an Atlanta artist this year, finally hit stores in physical form on Tuesday (Oct. 28) via Kranky stateside and 4AD overseas.
