Classic Paste: The Best of Issues 11-15 (Aug. 2004 - May 2005)
(JUST A FEW MORE REASONS TO HELP SAVE PASTE)In less than two weeks, I'll celebrate my 6th anniversary at this magazine. When I started as Paste's second-ever intern on June 1, 2003, we were still a tiny operation. Only five of us were in the office full-time: publisher Nick Purdy, editor Josh Jackson, assistant editor Jason Killingsworth, myself (who would go on to become associate editor) and my intern cohort, Steven Bevilaqua. Other important folks—like senior/film editor and future Paste president Tim Porter, design director José Reyes, and future associate publisher Joe Kirk—were working part-time, since Paste couldn't yet support a full staff. Back then, we were... read more

First time’s a charm for the inaugural Jackson Hole Music Festival. The two-day affair set in Teton Village, Wyoming, will not be a minor-league production. The line-up, not even complete yet, already includes Wilco, music legend Brian Wilson and Medeski, Martin & Wood on day one, and The Black Crowes, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, and The Avett Brothers on day two.... read more

Brian Wilson, number seven of Paste’s Best Living Songwriters, is no stranger to charitable works without the aid of a court mandate like many other rock stars, so it comes as no surprise he is playing a benefit gig in New York City. The former creative genius of the Beach Boys is teaming up with the non-profit Stand Up for a Cure, whose goal is to eradicate lung cancer, for a late spring show at the Hammerstein Ballroom. If getting to New York is too much trouble to catch Wilson in concert, the benefit happens in the middle of a... read more

Summer might be officially over, but that doesn’t mean that our favorite Beach Boy has to take a break from the sunshine. Lead singer and co-founder of the Beach Boys, Mike Love, has filed suit against Brian Wilson and several English companies, including London-based newspaper, The Mail on Sunday. The suit alleges that the above-mentioned companies and Wilson's representatives together deceived The Mail on Sunday readers that a giveaway of three million copies of the Beach Boys album Good Vibrations was authorized by Love and the rest of the Boys. In a statement, Love said that the blame should fall less on Wilson (who's suffered mental problems in the past) and more on those around him who make decisions for him: “Unfortunately,... read more
