Broken Social Scene to tour

Since Leslie Feist and Broken Social Scene co-founder Kevin Drew have already tasted the savory nectar of solo careers—of their 2007 albums, the former made 5 and the latter 54 on Paste's Best of 2007 list—it was only fair that Brendan Canning, the other half of that initial BSS formula, got his shot at the title. As we reported back in May, Canning's Something For All of Us is set for release July 22 on Arts & Crafts as the second installment in the Broken Social Scene Presents collection (after Drew's Spirit If...)....  read more

Broken Social Scene’s Canning to release solo debut

image not available

Broken Social Scene member Brendan Canning will release his debut solo album Something For All of Us July 22 on Arts & Crafts. Canning first had the idea for a solo album back in January of 2007 when he started assembling songs he had written over time into a single, decidedly album-like format. He produced the album in Toronto with Ryan Kondrat and John La Manga, and emerged with 11 diverse tracks that showcase his wide range of musical influences and talents. While Canning has only performed lead vocals on three BSS songs, he has scored music for several films,...  read more

Broken Social Scene tours Oceania and Asia

image not available

In 2007, Broken Social Scene was all about (re)presenting. In 2008, the band will re-(re)present, and it will also encourage you to (re)read coffee table books. But it will also be doing something (re)fresh(ing): touring in two continents that have yet to be graced with the band’s presence. Yes, the gregarious Canadian collective will be taking Oceania and Asia by storm in February and March. BSS will be docking at all of the St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival ports of call, with additional dates in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Singapore. Broken Social Scene on tour: February 20 - Auckland, New...  read more

Broken Social Scene coffee table book in the works

image not available

It’s no secret that many people who live the rock and roll lifestyle have the tendency to party hard, and so perhaps to alleviate their afternoon hangover they have a cup of coffee to put some pep in their step. I will even venture further to say that they typically drink their midday coffee next to a coffee table that has books on it. With this logic I can somewhat maybe understand why Broken Social Scene would want to put out a coffee table book. The book, appropriately titled This Book is Broken, is said to contain an oral history...  read more

Broken Social Scene Presents themselves

image not available

Coming soon! Broken Social Scene Presents Broken Social Scene founder Kevin Drew performing songs with several other members of Broken Social Scene. But, you know, solo style. It’s called Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew, “Spirit If…” Or maybe it’s just called Spirit If by Kevin Drew, and the “Broken Social Scene Presents” element isn’t included in the title. Is this filed under B or D? Either way, Arts&Crafts will release the album on September 18. It’s the first in a series of “presentations” by Broken Social Scene, with the next being a “solo” album by member Brendan Canning. Many...  read more
