You might already know that one of our favorite films currently making the festival circuit is Evan Blodell’s stunning Bellflower (not the same as the Firefly fan film of the same name). It had to have been exciting for Evan when Carson Daly saw and loved his film and wanted to interview him. But when Daly’s old friend Sean “Diddy” Combs dropped by, the scene changed from exciting to bizarre. Via the Associated Press, word is that TRL is shutting down operations after a final farewell episode in November. The MTV video-countdown show, which premiered in Sept. 1998 and peaked in 1999, had reasonable fame while being hosted by Carson Daly until 2003, but has recently not done as well in ratings. NBC's Last Call With Carson Daly is resuming production today, after it went shut down from the Writer's Guild of America strike three weeks ago. This makes it the first late-night program to start back up. This has also prompted many to ask the question, "Carson Daly had writers?" Zing! An NBC spokeswoman told The New York Times that it was Mr. Daly who made the decision to start taping new episodes again, possibly prompted by Universal Media Sudios' threat to lay off nonwriting staff members at the end of the week if production didn't start up again.
