Chester French releases EP, preps Feb. full-length

|
Sometimes bands are preordained for success. They just happen to be in the right place at the right time, draw attention from the right people and are embraced by the press as the next big thing. (Oh, it also helps if they're talented too). Massachusetts-based Chester French might very well be one of those bands. The duo of Harvard graduates, D.A. Wallach and Max Drummey, have enjoyed the kind of buzz last seen with the similarly hyped collegiate bands Vampire Weekend and MGMT.

Cast announced for Serge Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life

|
As details for Serge Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life (Vie Héroïque) continue to come together, one thing is for sure: director Joann Sfar (of Ignatz-winning Rabbi's Cat fame) would prefer this biopic not be traditional. According to The Playlist, he refuses to use the word "biopic" at all, and his film will use special effects by the team that worked on Pan's Labyrinth. How this will color his 40-year sweep of Gainsbourg's life (from the early '40s to the '80s, stopping short of the poet/songwriter's death in 1991) is not as clear, but Sfrar insists that this won't be work in the vein of La Vie en Rose or Ray.

Charlotte Gainsbourg recovering from surgery

|

In a brief scare for singer/actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, doctors in Paris operated Thursday on a brain hemorrhage she sustained months ago in the US, following a water-skiing accident in which she had been involved.

"The operation went very well," said Dominique Segall, agent to the daughter of famed French stage singer Serge Gainsbourg.

The female Gainsbourg attended the Venice Film Festival earlier in the week, promoting her latest film, I'm Not There. She was also most recently seen in Michel Gondry's 2006 film, The Science of Sleep.
