Aside from that one weekend on the eve of 7th grade, when my parents left me with my older sister, I’ve never been a smoker. When I actually inhaled, it always tore my throat up so bad I couldn’t even finish a whole cigarette. Still, that weekend, a random, inconsequential moment occurred that I still—for some strange reason—remember in astonishing detail. It was the night before the first day of school—late August 1991 in the Atlanta suburbs—and an intense thunderstorm had just rolled through. My sister was already asleep in her basement apartment, so I took my boombox down to... read more

Supergroups can be a tricky beast. Sometimes, they bring out best in everyone involved. Other times, they're an experiment best left in the lab. Either way, the allure of so much star power in a single place can often be too much to resist. So despite our best efforts to raise a cynical eyebrow on this one, it looks, well, kinda fun: Mick Jagger is angling for a star-studded collaboration with David Bowie and Elton John for the 2012 Olympics in London.... read more

Bowie’s song “Heroes” will be featured, natch, as will Dylan’s “Man in the Long Black Coat,” which executive producer Allan Arkush was thrilled about, given the selectivity that Dylan’s representatives usually practice with rights to his songs. Arkush had used Dylan’s work before on “Crossing Jordan.” "We started talking about including music that inspired us--not just music that... read more

Recently, the artist formerly known as Ziggy Stardust has endorsed a pint-sized band and become a "knitted icon," but the latest news from Camp Bowie might just rip your face off (since, in a way, it rips off his). According to a report from the NME, a white-plaster cast "life mask" of Bowie's visage from the 1983 vampire flick, The Hunger, is up for sale at 911.com. What this means is that if you're willing to pony up just over a grand of your own cash, you'll get a mask that is "amazingly detailed with every wrinkle & pore evident,"... read more
