Danger Mouse's Dark Night of the Soul to See the Light of Day
About a year ago, Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse and David Lynch gathered together a horde of musical talent, including The Flaming Lips and DM’s current Broken Bells partner, James Mercer, to create Dark Night of the Soul. Much to Danger Mouse’s chagrin, an ongoing legal dispute with the label EMI kept him from releasing music from the project for fear of being sued. Instead, he released a book of photographs (Lynch’s contribution) along with a blank CD-R labeled, “For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.”... read more

Before my recent hiring here at Paste, I spent three months in the soul-draining and all-too-prevalent circumstance known as unemployment. I filled this windfall of blank day planner pages with books, music and the rediscovery of my favorite Super Nintendo game. Yet I found myself with plenty of leisure time still un-wasted, so I finally tackled my mile-long “movies to watch” list. Found in: Movies, NewsWatch the Trailer for Werner Herzog and David Lynch's My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done
My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done has a pedigree that almost guarantees it an audience (IE: Werner Herzog directs, David Lynch produces), so it doesn’t really matter that this first trailer makes the movie look like a glum, dull retread of other self-serious thrillers. The film follows the apparently true story of a man (Michael Shannon) who acts out a Sophocles play in his head and kills his mother (Grace Zabriskie, from Big Love) with a sword. The cast also includes Willem Dafoe, Chloë Sevigny and Michael Peña.... read more
