In only a handful of episodes, Ben and Kate has been able to become a very funny show while also having touching family moments without playing as cheesy, even with its hilariously sappy theme song. read more

For some reason, it’s always so much fun to see how your favorite TV characters met. Whenever Friends did it, it was amusing to see these six characters before the lessons and changes that had made them into who they were today. How I Met Your Mother and Happy Endings constantly do it. Hell, Lost made it part of the show’s formula. While we’ve seen glimpses of past versions of Nick, Jess, Winston and Schmidt, “Models” gives us a look at moments that created who they would eventually become and start the relationships they still hold dear years later. read more

“The Fox Hunt” doesn’t have the level of excitement or introspective look into the past of this duo that one would hope for, but it is the most fun the show has had with these characters so far. read more

Like we saw last season with Jess and her students, something doesn’t work when the main group coincides with another group. Throw in a new love interest or two, that’s fine, but an entire group of younger kids doesn’t seem to draw the same excitement. Found in: TV, ReviewsBen and Kate Review: "Bad Cop/Bad Cop" (Episode 1.02)
With the pilot of Ben and Kate, the story of a reunited brother and sister helping to raise a child was heartwarming for sure, but lacked a comedic punch that was expected. Star Nat Faxon went for a broad comedic approach, but it just sort of fell flat at times. The show’s second episode “Bad Cop/Bad Cop” combines the family dynamic with a much stronger comedy, yet never feeling like it goes overboard with either aspect. read more

What makes “Fluffer” a great episode is how Nick and Jess navigate Jess being Nick’s girl friend and not Nick’s girlfriend, and how all four characters are evolving into more fully fleshed out people. read more
