The new year is upon us and moviegoers are finally getting around to seeing some of 2008's big-name films (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Revolutionary Road, Gran Torino, Defiance, The Wrestler). Eli Roth directs Nazi propaganda film for Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds has become the object of daily blog obsession, but this is pretty cool news. We already knew that neo-genre royalty Eli Roth had signed on for a supporting bit in the new movie (as he did in Death Proof), but now he’s also taken a turn on the opposite side of the camera as the helmer of a Nazi propaganda short to be featured in the movie....  read more

Perplexingly retitled Inglourious Basterds begins shooting

It had been nearly a week since the latest round of silly online casting rumors for Inglourious Basterds, which meant that the Weinsteins needed to refocus our attention back to the film. As such, they issued a press release yesterday announcing that the film had begun shooting. Not only does the statement officially change the name of the film back to how Tarantino had it in his first draft (and distinguishes it from Enzo Castellari's 1978 feature), but it puts the film's timetable on par with what Tarantino promised.
