Islands to Unleash Vapours in September

Islands to Unleash <em>Vapours</em> in September

When we found out a few years back that there would be no happily-ever-after for The Unicorns, a single bulbous tear rolled down our collective cheek, hitting the ground and making a gentle noise audible only to our sadness. Oh, but then we got some good news! Frontman Nick Thorburn-aka-Nick Diamonds created another buzzworthy band called Islands. And now the good news keeps coming. Islands has just wrapped up its third album, Vapours, a self-proclaimed "master(piece)" to be released Sept. 22 on Anti-....  read more

Paste's Signs of Spring Playlist: Running

<em>Paste</em>'s Signs of Spring Playlist: Running

There are many signals that usher in the changing of the seasons (celestial equinoxes, changing sleeve lengths, authoritative groundhogs), but the big tell will always be the absence or presence of outdoor exercisers. Here at Paste, we can tell it's springtime, not from the pollen that covers Atlanta in a frustrating yellow layer, but rather the spandex-clad runners who fill the sidewalks and our side-view mirrors. Atlantan runners, joggers and walkers serve a dual purpose: They remind us that the chill is over and that it's never to late to start that New Year's resolution. Then again, they could just...  read more

22 up-and-coming artists you ignore at your own peril!

[Above: White Rabbits]MugisonHometown: Ísafjörður, Iceland Album: Mugiboogie Why He's Worth Watching: Mugison likely embodies the person Led Zeppelin envisioned when writing “Immigrant Song.” One moment, this man from the land of the ice and snow is sounding the hammer of the gods, alternating between an infernal howl (much like Robert Plant’s) and a guttural heavy-metal groan, the next, he’s crooning to twanging guitar over eerie strings. He’s a shape-shifter and a funnyman, and Mugiboogie builds on his four previous genre-transcending works.  For Fans Of: Tom Waits, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Led Zeppelin Acceptance Speech: “When I was 14 years old, I...  read more

Islands sign to Anti- for second album

image not available

The URL of the Islands' website reads "Islands are Forever." Even during the tumultuous departure of bandmate and co-founder J'amie Tambeur (née Jamie Thompson) in 2006, lead singer Nick Diamonds (née Nick Thorburn) remained unwavering in his commitment to the band and its longevity. And the recent news that the band has been signed to Anti- Records, home of rock greats Nick Cave and Tom Waits, seems to confirm that Islands really might be forever. With the announcement comes the news that the band's second record, entitled Arm's Way will be released on May 20. Co-produced by the band and...  read more
