Kung Fu Fighting: The 10 Best Martial-Arts Movies

Unlike one-hit wonder Carl Douglas from whom I'm borrowing this list title, great martial arts movie stars and fight choreographers (particularly those from the fertile film-ground of Hong Kong) have contributed a lot to western cinema read more

Watch the Trailer for Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith's Karate Kid Reboot

Watch the Trailer for Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith's Karate Kid Reboot

So, technically, in this remake of the 1984 classic, Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han teaches 12-year-old Dre (played by Will Smith’s son, Jaden) kung fu and not karate. sounding much more painful than it actually was. Thus, a formula for the ages: A shot to the buttocks + startling noise = comic genius. From Shakespeare through Itchy and Scratchy, slapstick has delighted audiences. Why is it funny?
Mel Brooks put it best: “Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you walk into an open sewer and die.” In other words, as long as it’s happening to someone else, bring on the... read more
