Wait for it And wait for it we did. 'How I Met Your Mother' has had its ups and downs throughout the years, but luckily the seventh season finally provided laugh out loud moments coupled with sentimental ones that made me openly weep. read more

"Holy long walk for a short drink of water, Batman." It’s great when a character says something that sums up an episode for us. While this season of _How I Met Your Mother_ has done an excellent job of returning to early form with interwoven episodes that propel the series forward, there have been standalone episodes that have the sole purpose of revealing a key plot point in the last five minutes. read more

Backing themselves into a corner isn’t exactly something foreign to the How I Met You Mother writers. The most famous instance is the night of the goat, but this week’s episode was supposed to be, to use Barney’s catchphrase, legendary. Midway through last season there’s a clip of Ted walking into the bar wearing a green dress and happily telling Barney, “Now we’re even!” read more

A series of flashbacks lead up to a short, albeit important, closing scene in this week’s episode of How I Met Your Mother. It turns out every three years since 2003 Ted and Marshall (and subsequently Barney) watch the original _Star Wars_ trilogy and fantasize about what their lives will be like the next time they all get together. read more

Despite bigger budgets and higher-profile casts, writer-directors Jay and Mark Duplass (The Puffy Chair, Cyrus) have stayed true to their lo-fi, improvisational aesthetic, and Jeff, Who Lives at Home marks a sort of homecoming for the brothers, who themselves lived at their parents’ home in New Orleans while shooting this Baton Rouge-set family drama. The Duplasses make films about ordinary people and shoot for realism with moving results, but their style, all handheld camera work and tight close-ups, may suffer as their movies play wider on bigger screens.... read more

After a few weeks off, the show returned with an episode written by the creators, which usually means it will play a huge role in the overall continuity of the show. And boy did it ever. It was a very Quinn (Becki Newton) and Barney-centric episode, but Ted and Robin’s recent problems were also highlighted to perfection and overall, “The Broath” is one of the best episodes of the series that allows viewers to guess where the show is headed in quite awhile. read more

This season of How I Met Your Mother has been consistently better than the previous few ones and has harkened back to the highs of the first handful of seasons. The past three weeks have put the vulnerability of Ted, Robin, Marshall, Lily and Barney at an all time high and the series is shifting to the ultimate dénouement of the series. read more

After Ted told Robin he loves her in last week’s episode I think we all groaned out loud in fear that How I Met Your Mother was going down that path again. But then I reminded everyone that the show needed to confront the Ted-Robin-Barney love triangle. It could have taken weeks for the writers to get around to the three of them figuring out who loves whom. Or they could have jumped right into it. read more
