Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon Hits Google

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon Hits Google

Google is increasingly used for more than just making sure you spelled that word right, or checking out the site’s frequently-changing logo. In fact, it can now be used for something much more important—to find out what pop culture fiends refer to as a celebrity’s “Bacon Number.” Just type in any celebrity’s name followed by “Bacon number” (without quotes) to see how far removed they are—professionally-speaking—from Kevin Bacon.... read more

Johnny Depp, Russell Crowe, Keanu Reeves, Oh My! Ten Film Star Music Projects That are Way Worse Than Ryan Gosling's Dead Man's Bones

Johnny Depp, Russell Crowe, Keanu Reeves, Oh My! Ten Film Star Music Projects That are Way Worse Than Ryan Gosling's Dead Man's Bones

If you've been poking around lately on those music blogs they have on the interwebs, chances are you've heard a thing or two about the new ANTI- signing, Dead Man's Bones, which also happens to be the band of Half Nelson/The Notebook/bunch of other stuff movie star, Ryan Gosling. Now, the music of Dead Man's Bones doesn't move me in any particular way, good or bad; it's just kind of there. "Gothic folk," as they say, complete with a kinda-creepy children's choir. However, it does actually sound like music that would be released on ANTI-. Which is to... read more

Paste's Double Life Playlist: The Actor/Musician

Paste's Double Life Playlist: The Actor/Musician

Jenny Lewis has recently released her Summer tour schedule, and we're amped about it. Many indie-music enthusiasts know her as the charming chanteuse of Rilo Kiley; however, any child of late '80s television knew the face well before the voice. Before jamming, Lewis appeared in Jell-O commercials. Before Rabbit Fur Coat, she pushed Girl Scout cookies in Troop Beverly Hills. And before romancing Jonathan Rice, she was on Fred Savage's radar in the 1989 film, The Wizard. All of this reminiscing got us thinking about some of our favorite actor-musicians, so we've created a playlist with a few faces you've... read more

Sundance 2009: Taking Chance and Reporter

image not available

Well, it's been a busy weekend at Sundance, where I've packed in nearly twenty screenings since the last report. Let me start with a couple that I found particularly good: Taking Chance is a very simple film about Lt. Col. Michael Strobl (Kevin Bacon) who is escorting the body of a fallen PFC named Chance Phelps to his family. In under ninety minutes, the film bears witness to the respectful procedures that the USMC follows in such situations and to the reactions of ordinary Americans who Strobl meets on this particular journey. He doesn't know the Private, and we learn... read more

Tappa Kegga Bru - The 5 Best College Comedies Ever

image not available

Some of the funniest films ever made pay tribute to that special time of transition in life between youth and adulthood. Yes, I'm talking about college—those carefree days of waking up hungover in a pile of your own vomit, only to realize you've missed your philosophy mid-term. Just thinking about it, I'm instantly transported back to my College of Charleston dorm room, with its painted-blue concrete walls and window that didn't open. I'm hitting snooze because I don't want to get up for my 2 p.m. thursday class. "Might as well skip it," I think to myself as I roll... read more
