Carla Bruni covers Moldy Peaches' "Anyone Else But You" for French television series Taratata

It seems that the first lady of France isn't content to only cover the American and British poetic tradition. With Yeats and Dickinson out of the way, Carla Bruni has turned her eye to something a little more culturally relevant, namely the Moldy Peaches' Juno theme song "Anyone Else But You."

Kimya Dawson's favorite parenting websites

|
In Issue 46, musician Kimya Dawson shared some of her all-natural parenting tips with Paste. In addition to sign language and potty code, here are some of the best website she's visited since becoming pregnant with her daughter, Panda.

Mothering.com

“It has amazing support forums for people who are trying to conceive and people who experience pregnancy loss, and pregnancy clubs where you can talk to other people who are at the same stages of pregnancy as you so you feel less alone. There are baby forums, toddler forums, and natural parenting forums, and forums for trading stuff. I got tons of secondhand stuff there.”

DiaperSwappers.com

“I prefer to have natural, bleach-free, chemical-free, plastic-free stuff touching her skin, and the skin that the diaper is covering is really delicate and permeable. A lot of the toxic stuff in disposable diapers can go in through their skin down there, and that scares me. And the amount of diapers used every day—that much waste going into the landfill is depressing.”

WillowToys.com
“He makes really beautiful wooden kitchen toys.”

Top 10 Kids' Songs That Don't Suck

|
minivan1.jpg

K Records announced this week that Moldy Peach Kimya Dawson has a new children's record coming out, the wonderfully titled Alphabutt. Like They Might Be Giants, the idea of Dawson singing kids' songs seems natural. And it's good to have more entries into this growing field of "Children's Music That Parent's Will Try to Make Their Kids Like." The truth is, sometime's the best intentions—like Tom Waits singing "Bend Down the Branches"—don't strike the same chord with the little one's that mom or dad might have hoped. Here's a list of 10 songs, my three children and I can agree on. Let me know what's been popular in your own mini-van.

10 Songs My Kids and I Agree On

10. "House Party Time" - Dan Zanes & Friends (House Party)
Like Ralph's World and Farmer Jason, Zanes is a veteran of the grown-up rock world, but has been aiming for a younger audience for years. I couldn't convince my own children this was kids' music until Disney Playhouse picked him, but that hasn't affected his laid-back joyfulness.

Kimya Dawson to release children's album in August

|

During her Wednesday night show at SXSW, Kimya Dawson announced that her forthcoming children’s album, Alphabutt, is set to be released by K Records sometime this August. Now that the Moldy Peach has tackled the aches of adolescence for the Juno soundtrack, the songstress will move on to a more rewarding stage of life—namely, childhood.

Employing a cast of wide-eyed, three-foot-tall wonders for backup singers, Dawson reports on her LiveJournal that they just finished recording the album at the end of February. Click below to watch an impromptu performance of the title track, with an oh-so-very-Kimya-Dawson rundown of the 26 letters of the “Alphabutt” (sample lyric: "B is for butt, C is for cat butt"):
