Octogenarian country musician Charlie Louvin is set to release not one, but two albums this year: Steps to Heaven on Sept. 16, and Charlie Louvin Sings Murder Ballads & Disaster Songs on Dec. 9. Fans will be able to hear some of his new material when the music legend jumps on tour with the Old 97's in October.
If you thought that Charlie Louvin's 2007 self-titled disc—which featured guest performances from Louvin-influenced artists like Elvis Costello, Jeff Tweedy (Wilco), Will Oldham (Bonnie 'Prince' Billy) and Eef Barzelay (Clem Snide)—was a career-concluding passing of the torch to new alt.country names, think again.The remaining half of the Louvin Brothers, Charlie Louvin, will put out a self-titled album on Tompkins Square Records February 20, 2007. Collaborators include Jeff Tweedy, Kurt Wagner, Mac McCaughan, Eef Barzelay, Will Oldham, Elvis Costello and George Jones. These bastions of contemporary music will perform Louvin Brothers material as well as songs by the Monroe Brothers, Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family.
