Major Lazer, The Hood Internet Mash-Up 2012's Most Popular Songs
While publications throughout the world are recapping the year in music by compiling a list, The Hype Machine enlisted Major Lazer and The Hood Internet to create something a little more entertaining. The site determined the most blogged about and favorited tracks of the year and had the producers create mashups. The two 30-minute mixes include some of the biggest names in music (Usher, Beyoncé) as well as rookies that are leaving a mark (Kendrick Lamar, Azealia Banks). A complete tracklist will be available later in the week, but until then you can hear both mashups below. Major Lazer: The... read more

Movie montages with music (or AMV's as they're more commonly known on the seedy mash-up circuits of the internet) are almost universally awful. More often than not, they take a song from a derivative, pathos-mining butt-rock band and set it to a sequence of scenes from a hyper-violent movie. The kind of thoughtless crap that only required the author to tear themselves away from World of Warcraft long enough to slap a Linkin Park track on top of a three-minute clip of Underworld. And they're popular. Reeeeeeeally popular.... read more
