A celebration of Memphis soul music occurred at the White House yesterday and ended with a star-studded concert that included Mavis Staples and Alabama Shakes as well as Booker T. Jones and Justin Timberlake. “Let’s face it, who does not love this music?” President Obama said when opening the event. “These songs get us on the dance floor. They get stuck in our heads. We go back over them again and again.
