Modest Mouse Tour Dates Announced

The good news: following the widespread release of their upcoming "Autumn Beds"/"Guilty Cocker Spaniels" single, Modest Mouse will hit the road once again. The good news for people who love bad news: Johnny Marr won't be with the band, as Jim Fairchild, formerly of Grandaddy and currently of All Smiles, will take his place once again....  read more

Modest Mouse, Wilco Prep Singles for Vinyl Saturday

image not available

There's a lot of buzz lately about how vinyl is "back" from the dead. Of course, the funny thing is that vinyl never really went away, it's just getting a hell of a lot more popular these days (thanks in no small part to excellent ideas like Record Store Day, we like to think), not to mention getting produced in much better quality (180 gram like whoa!). Hey, speaking of the intersection between vinyl and Record Store Day, we'd be remiss not to mention their latest stratagem: Vinyl Saturday, coming right up on June 20. It's the same basic idea: bands...  read more

Paste's Tax Refund Playlist: Cash Money Mix

image not available

The best thing about giving your money away is getting a bit of it back. Some people say that money can't buy happiness, but we respectfully disagree with this opinion; it definitely makes us feel warm, fuzzy and well-fed. If you aren't smiling when you get your tax-refund check in the mail, you might be a robot. In fact, you're most likely incapable of feeling emotion and Blade Runner's Rick Deckard is closing in on your mailbox as you read this. Modest Mouse adds tour dates

Update: New tour dates added below in bold.--Modest Mouse has announced a rather, um, modest (sorry!) string of tour dates for late February and early March before helping headline the Langerado Festival in Miami on March 8. The indie-rock-trio-turned-radio-hit-making-sextet slowed down a bit in 2008 after a wild 2007, but have still managed to tour the country with  R.E.M. and wrangle Grandaddy's Jim Fairchild to play guitar on the new tour dates. He'll be taking the place of Johnny Marr, who is working with The Cribs on their forthcoming album....  read more

Rothbury 2008: Day 2

image not available

Rothbury kicked into high gear on Friday, as Jakob Dylan ushered in the afternoon with a set of dusty Americana tunes. Sporting a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses that could've reflected a nuclear blast, Dylan looked like Sheriff Cooley from O Brother, Where Art Thou? while singing in a comfortable, cool baritone. “Let me be the first up here to say ‘Happy 4th of July,’” he said, drawing applause from the crowd of Wallflowers fans and wandering passerby....  read more
