Although it's a gray (and snowy, if you're in Seattle) April in many parts of the country, the minds behind Bumbershoot have started planning for their sunny September festival. A partial line-up has been disclosed, which, so far, includes Modest Mouse, Sheryl Crow, Katy Perry and De La Soul are a few of the major highlights....  read more

Modest Mouse adds tour dates

Modest Mouse adds tour dates

Update: New tour dates added below in bold.--Modest Mouse has announced a rather, um, modest (sorry!) string of tour dates for late February and early March before helping headline the Langerado Festival in Miami on March 8. The indie-rock-trio-turned-radio-hit-making-sextet slowed down a bit in 2008 after a wild 2007, but have still managed to tour the country with  R.E.M. and wrangle Grandaddy's Jim Fairchild to play guitar on the new tour dates. He'll be taking the place of Johnny Marr, who is working with The Cribs on their forthcoming album....  read more

Rothbury 2008: Day 2

image not available

Rothbury kicked into high gear on Friday, as Jakob Dylan ushered in the afternoon with a set of dusty Americana tunes. Sporting a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses that could've reflected a nuclear blast, Dylan looked like Sheriff Cooley from O Brother, Where Art Thou? while singing in a comfortable, cool baritone. “Let me be the first up here to say ‘Happy 4th of July,’” he said, drawing applause from the crowd of Wallflowers fans and wandering passerby. ...  read more

Sasquatch 2008: Day 1

image not available

Welcome to The Gorge, y'all. Sasquatch 2008 is here and it's overwhelming. So, in an effort to trim it down to something semi-manageable, I'm going to be posting photos and blurbs of my experience in Washington this Memorial Day Weekend. Enjoy... Kathleen Edwards rocked with an immaculate band, spitting bile at the sun, particularly on set closer "The Cheapest Key." Edwards sang "B is for bullshit and you fed me some," but I'd argue that "B" is actually for "badass." She is just that....  read more

Modest Mouse schedules post-R.E.M. dates with Brass Band

image not available

Way back in January, we told you that R.E.M. had netted quite a pair of openers for its Accelerate tour. Who were the lucky guests? A little band called The National, which did pretty well in an obscure ranking of the best albums of 2007, and another group of rapscallions who have designated themselves Modest Mouse, and who also happened to do serious damage to that little list we just mentioned. The latter group has decided that hanging out with R.E.M. is all well and good, but headlining is really where the fun is, which is why Modest Mouse has...  read more

Modest Mouse working on EP, touring more

At an all-night diner, one might find a sign that says "XXX" (but they were talking about root beer, dontcha know) or the pancake option known as the "short stack"—instead of four hot, delicious flapjacks, you get a just-as-tasty, but cheaper, two. The men of Modest Mouse, no strangers to the 3 a.m. eatery, will serve up their own short stack of songs later this year, according to a recent Rolling Stone interview with frontman Isaac Brock. Brock disclosed a wealth of information, telling RS that the EP will contain cuts like "The Whale Song," "Satellite Skin" and a collaboration...  read more
