This cheerfully innocuous sign greets visitors to Sony Pictures Studios’ famous Stage 27 in Culver City, Calif., essentially Glitterville’s Ground Zero, and the site where the Wizard of Oz’s Munchkinland scenes were filmed nearly 70 years ago. Modest Mouse fans have a mere 18 days left before We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank hits stores, but the overeager can satisfy their Mouse cravings by watching the video for the first single, “Dashboard,” here. In keeping with the nautical theme of the album’s title, the video features a tall-tale involving frontman Isaac Brock as a sea-faring captain, a big boat, a bigger fish and a microphone instead of a hook. The next Modest Mouse record won’t be out for months (their label’s best guess has it emerging in early March) but at Epic Records’ New York office, Paste staffers Reid Davis and Nate Douglas recently got a sneak preview of ten songs from the new disc, tentatively entitled We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank. Those who were highly anticipating Modest Mouse’s upcoming album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, will just have to continue to wait. Originally slated for release on Dec. 19, the band announced in a press release that it is to be released in early 2007.
