Ninth annual moe.down line-up finalized

|

Jam-banders, take note. The men of moe. are set to wrap up summer once again with a weekend's worth of meandering guitars set against the scenic backdrop of the Adirondack mountains. The festival, scheduled for August 29-31, will be held at Turin, N.Y.'s Snow Ridge Ski (with chair lifts a-running!), with hosts moe. playing six sets over the course of the three days.

moe. throws out Sticks and Stones, tour

|

Alhough their fans might have expressed distress when Satellite Party was pitched in as a replacement for Ryan Adams and the Cardinals at this year’s moe.down, the band in charge of the gala has lost little of its stride. Having released Conch earlier this year, moe. has been hard at work and already has a new album on the way.

On Jan. 22, the band will be release the follow-up to Sticks and Stones. On Jan. 17, moe. will be taking off on a tour in support of the album, and if your one of those lucky devils who are going to their New York New Years Eve shows, you might be able to get an even earlier sneak peek into the band’s new goods.

Sticks and Stones will also include “Conviction Song” and “All Roads Lead to Home,” which have been previously unreleased. Although this portion of the tour is sticking to the northern regions of the country, do not fret. This is only the first leg of moe.’s trek across the U.S.

Sticks and Stones track list:
1. Cathedral
2. Sticks and Stones
3. Darkness
4. Conviction Song
5. Zed Naught Z
6. Deep This Time
7. All Roads Lead to Home
8. September
9. Queen of Everything
10. Raise A Glass

|

This year, New York jamband moe. is throwing its annual festival/fan party over the weekend of August 31-September 2.

So far, the confirmed artists are: Ryan Adams, Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood, J.J. Grey & Mofro, Amos Lee, Meat Puppets, Ryan Montbleu and The Brakes. Of course, the festival’s namesake will also perform six different shows throughout the weekend.

More moe.down bands are expected to be announced soon. Over the past eight years, the festival lineup has included Flaming Lips, They Might Be Giants, Matisyahu, MMW, Ani DiFranco, Blues Traveler, Leo Kottke, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Nellie McKay, Cracker Van Beethoven, David Grisman and Les Claypool.

moe.down is held in the Ridge Ski area in Turin, N.Y. at the edge of the Adirondack Mountains. Ski lifts will be open and mountain bikes are welcomed.

moe. - The Conch

|

Jambands take plenty of heat from music snobs, but moe. can fly the flag proudly

The Conch extends the confident experimentation of 2003's Jammy Award-winning Wormwood, as these Bonaroo mainstays explore the farthest corners of their hodgepodge sound. Blending jazz-inflected piano, creamy lead guitar, Jim Loughlin's Afro-Cuban percussion and falsetto pop harmonies, "Blue Jeans Pizza" hints at the meticulous pop of Steely Dan's "Reelin' in the Years," while crafting a springboard for the type of live improvisation that sends moe.rons spinning into tie-dyed nirvana. Bassist Rob Derhak shares keyboard and vocal duties with guitarists Chuck Garvey and Al Schnier, so there's no shortage of melodic input for free-ranging excursions like "Down Boy," which fits funk-stabbed verses against Deadhead country-rock ramble. The album's title refers to the talisman in Lord of the Flies, which grants its bearer the right to express his views. Garvey's "Wind It Up" lyric celebrates the beauty of collaboration; moe.'s peak moments occur when the conch is passed like a hot potato.
