Kanye-Gate Continues: The Taylor Swift/Kanye West Mash-Up has Arrived

image not available

No one could have accurately predicted how the Kanye West/Taylor Swift kerfuffle would be received in this soundbyte-driven media economy. After West's cognac-fueled rant at Sunday night's VMAs, there's been an exploding cottage industry of "Imma let you finish, but..." and "BEST VIDEO OF ALL TIME" memes, blogs and blog-memes....  read more

Why Taylor Swift (and You) Shouldn't be Upset that Kanye Upstaged Her at the VMAs

A scant few minutes into last night's MTV Video Music Awards, a Hennessy-sauced Yeezy stormed the stage and kicked down Taylor Swift's sandcastle: "Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'm going to let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time." Drama ensued: various B and C-list musicians feigned disgust at the breach of decorum, and West was promptly ejected from the show and ran home to compose a half-sincere apology on his blog (which he later removed)....  read more

Teen Wolf to Live Again Via MTV

For all those who are still itching, and that's 24 years and counting of itches, to see Michael J. Fox dominate another high school basketball game as a werewolf, MTV is delivering the closest thing we'll see to a Teen Wolf remake. At least for a while....  read more

T-Minus 10 Days Until Blueprint 3: Where in the World is Jay-Z?

We're so glad you asked! We're only a little more than a week away from the release of Jay-Z's eleventh (!!) studio album, Blueprint 3, which drops Sept. 11 on his Roc Nation label (if you just can't wait or don't know how to use the internet, MTV is currently streaming the whole album on The Leak). There's no doubt Hova is one of the hardest working men in the industry (remember, he's a business, man), but he's so busy we've barely been able to keep track of him. So, here's a brief primer on his late-summer exploits....  read more

La, La, La, La, La: Daria's Coming to DVD!

image not available

And it's about damn time. We've been living in a sick, sad world without a certain bespectacled high-school misanthrope, one Daria Morgendorffer. Daria, the 1997 sardonic spin-off of Beavis & Butthead, has been living in post-MTV purgatory since it ended in 2002. Although it endured a longer and more celebrated tenure than some other MTV cartoon greats (R.I.P. Clone High), the only tales of Lawndale to surface on DVD over the years have been the two Daria TV movies: Is It Fall Yet? and Is It College Yet? But rest easy, fellow '90s junkies: there have been rumblings in the DVD world...  read more

Paste Intern Watches 24 Straight Hours of MTV, Loses Mind

When Michael Jackson died, a strange thing happened: MTV rolled back its reruns of Pimp My Ride and actually began to play Michael Jackson videos. The man basically changed how we all view music videos, and his video memorial reminded us how glorious the golden days of music television were back when they actually played music (and we actually watched). After the tribute was over, we started wondering what runs during a normally scheduled day at MTV. So we thought we'd find out by watching for 24 hours straight....  read more

Radio on the TV on the Internet: Ranking the Networks' Music Sites

MTV's Unplugged Returns with Adele, Silversun Pickups and Katy Perry

There are a few essential steps in a musician’s career that signify big-time success: releasing a best-of album, headlining a festival, and throughout the 1990s, performing live on MTV’s Unplugged. Alhough the series was hugely popular for a time, when major rock artists like Nirvana and Eric Clapton graced the stage with acoustic-only versions of their biggest hits, after eight seasons, Unplugged left the air, to return only for special occasions in the following years. Today, it makes a comeback, returning to MTV.com with a series of monthly performances from popular contemporary artists like Adele, Silversun Pickups and Katy Perry....  read more

Three Reasons to Watch $5 Cover, the New MTV Show Created by Hustle & Flow Director Craig Brewer, According to the Man Himself

Next summer, if we are lucky, Memphis-based director Craig Brewer will start shooting Mother Trucker, a feature film based on a true story about a guy who breaks out of the pokey to see his sick mama, and winds up stealing not only a Wal-Mart tractor trailer but Crystal Gale’s frigging tour bus along the way.  ...  read more
