How I Met Your Mother Review: "The Burning Beekeeper" (Episode 7.15)

How I Met Your Mother has only had two episodes since the New Year, but they were pretty top notch. This week the show returned after a few weeks off with a concept episode similar to the early era of the show. This week, “The Burning Beekeeper” sets up the premise that everything that goes wrong and Marshall and Lily’s housewarming party occur within a five minute timeframe. So Future Ted decides to take a nonlinear approach (go figure) and tell the story one room at a time.  read more

How I Met Your Mother Review: "Symphony of Illumination" (Episode 7.12)

In the time since the How I Met Your Mother writers decided to drop the shocking revelation that Robin was pregnant, the effect has worn off. In my review of “The Rebound Girl” which aired on Nov. 21, I discussed how crazy this news actually was. I must have forgotten that way back in some of the earlier episodes Future Ted tells his children that Robin doesn’t have children; so either it’s a false pregnancy, or something sad happens. All of this leads us right into this week’s episode.  read more

How I Met Your Mother Review: "The Rebound Girl" (Episode 7.11)

If you haven’t heard about what happened on this week’s How I Met Your Mother do not read any further. Normally I like to recap and make observations about what worked and what didn’t work but still manage to keep the jokes and plot twists somewhat hidden, but this week has left me no choice but to discuss the spoiler ending. The writers have done a great job with balancing the comedy (which all sitcoms must have, right?) and the drama. You’re wrong if you say drama shouldn't be in a comedic series. All great series have some sort of dramatic elements. This season promised there would be a shift in the characters lives, and boy is there.  read more

How I Met Your Mother Review: "The Slutty Pumpkin Returns" (Episode 7.08)

There was a lot of build up for last night’s episode of How I Met Your Mother. Not with promos dedicated to a fake out revelation of who the mother is actually going to be. Instead the writers decided to take us back to the first season’s Halloween episode where Ted longingly awaits a girl who dressed as a slutty pumpkin way back in 2001.   read more

How I Met Your Mother Review: "Noretta" (Episode 7.07)

Some of the best How I Met Your Mother episodes are the ones that show us flashbacks from before 2005 (season one) or that explore the past of the characters’ lives. Think about the episode where Ted tells Blah-Blah how he met everyone else in the gang or the flashbacks from when Barney thought Bob Barker was his father. Of course the Robin Sparkles episodes are top of the line, but there are some that aren’t as instantaneously memorable, but when it comes on syndication you’ll instantly remember every joke. “Noretta” will be one of those episodes where it’s funny now and then will go in remission until one day you realize the genius behind it.  read more

How I Met Your Mother Review: "Mystery vs. History" (Episode 7.06)

Recently, a lot of shows have relied on meta-references. Some sitcoms’ entire premise revolves around it while others slide jabs at itself subtly. How I Met Your Mother has really stepped up the game with writing dialogue about itself. It’s in such a microscopic manner that viewers would most likely think it’s just an interesting plot and that there is nothing more than perfectly timed jokes being delivered.  read more
