How I Met Your Mother Review: "Trilogy Time" (Episode 7.20)

How I Met Your Mother Review: "Trilogy Time" (Episode 7.20)

A series of flashbacks lead up to a short, albeit important, closing scene in this week’s episode of How I Met Your Mother. It turns out every three years since 2003 Ted and Marshall (and subsequently Barney) watch the original _Star Wars_ trilogy and fantasize about what their lives will be like the next time they all get together. read more

How I Met Your Mother Review: "The Broath" (Episode 7.19)

How I Met Your Mother Review: "The Broath" (Episode 7.19)

After a few weeks off, the show returned with an episode written by the creators, which usually means it will play a huge role in the overall continuity of the show. And boy did it ever. It was a very Quinn (Becki Newton) and Barney-centric episode, but Ted and Robin’s recent problems were also highlighted to perfection and overall, “The Broath” is one of the best episodes of the series that allows viewers to guess where the show is headed in quite awhile. read more

How I Met Your Mother Review: "Karma" (Episode 7.18)

How I Met Your Mother Review: "Karma" (Episode 7.18)

This season of How I Met Your Mother has been consistently better than the previous few ones and has harkened back to the highs of the first handful of seasons. The past three weeks have put the vulnerability of Ted, Robin, Marshall, Lily and Barney at an all time high and the series is shifting to the ultimate dénouement of the series. read more

How I Met Your Mother Review: "No Pressure" (Episode 7.17)

How I Met Your Mother Review: "No Pressure" (Episode 7.17)

After Ted told Robin he loves her in last week’s episode I think we all groaned out loud in fear that How I Met Your Mother was going down that path again. But then I reminded everyone that the show needed to confront the Ted-Robin-Barney love triangle. It could have taken weeks for the writers to get around to the three of them figuring out who loves whom. Or…they could have jumped right into it. read more

How I Met Your Mother Review: "The Drunk Train" (Episode 7.16)

How I Met Your Mother Review: "The Drunk Train" (Episode 7.16)

In a perfect world How I Met Your Mother would contain two types of episodes. The first would be non-stop comedy that somehow manages to push the semimetal story forward. Last week’s episode had the first part of that down, but failed at developing any of the characters or plots. The second type of episode would contain one ridiculous off the wall plot along with a heartwarming or tear jerking storyline. read more

How I Met Your Mother Review: "The Burning Beekeeper" (Episode 7.15)

How I Met Your Mother Review: "The Burning Beekeeper" (Episode 7.15)

How I Met Your Mother has only had two episodes since the New Year, but they were pretty top notch. This week the show returned after a few weeks off with a concept episode similar to the early era of the show. This week, “The Burning Beekeeper” sets up the premise that everything that goes wrong and Marshall and Lily’s housewarming party occur within a five minute timeframe. So Future Ted decides to take a nonlinear approach (go figure) and tell the story one room at a time. read more

How I Met Your Mother Review: "46 Minutes" (Episode 7.14)

How I Met Your Mother Review: "46 Minutes" (Episode 7.14)

When Marshall and Lily announce they’re officially moving to Long Island, Ted laments that this is worse than when they cancelled Party of Five for the second time. Sure, the 46 minute train ride between the two How I Met Your Mother groups - the Manhattanites and the Long Islanders - doesn’t seem like too great of a distance, but what if it is? read more

How I Met Your Mother Review: "Symphony of Illumination" (Episode 7.12)

How I Met Your Mother Review: "Symphony of Illumination" (Episode 7.12)

In the time since the How I Met Your Mother writers decided to drop the shocking revelation that Robin was pregnant, the effect has worn off. In my review of “The Rebound Girl” which aired on Nov. 21, I discussed how crazy this news actually was. I must have forgotten that way back in some of the earlier episodes Future Ted tells his children that Robin doesn’t have children; so either it’s a false pregnancy, or something sad happens. All of this leads us right into this week’s episode. read more

How I Met Your Mother Review: "The Rebound Girl" (Episode 7.11)

How I Met Your Mother Review: "The Rebound Girl" (Episode 7.11)

If you haven’t heard about what happened on this week’s How I Met Your Mother do not read any further. Normally I like to recap and make observations about what worked and what didn’t work but still manage to keep the jokes and plot twists somewhat hidden, but this week has left me no choice but to discuss the spoiler ending. The writers have done a great job with balancing the comedy (which all sitcoms must have, right?) and the drama. You’re wrong if you say drama shouldn't be in a comedic series. All great series have some sort of dramatic elements. This season promised there would be a shift in the characters lives, and boy is there. read more
