Ten Great Cardigans That Neko Case Might Also Love

image not available

This month, Paste celebrates its 50th issue, with cover lady Neko Case counting down 17 things she loves. Meanwhile, I'm having my own little celebration because, do you know what I love? I love cardigans. And do you know what Neko is wearing on our cover (and possibly also in the photo above)? Totally a cardigan! This is quite exciting because, while we've had many a blazer and innumerable hoodies, never once has a cardigan graced the front of Paste....  read more

Neko Case to release Middle Cyclone, whirl across U.S.

Paste cover star Neko Case recently discussed her love of dogs (and bats and horses and goats and milk cows) with editor Josh Jackson, but in Case's—ahem—case, actions will resound just as well as words....  read more

Six Albums to Get Excited About in 2009

When I wrote my Five Movies to Get Excited About in 2009 list a couple weeks ago, ostensibly, I was providing a reader service. But really, I was getting as pumped up about those movies as anyone reading that post. In fact, I'm listening to Ready to Die right now, looking forward to taking in a showing of Notorious this weekend. Looking forward to stuff is fun, and it makes actually experiencing said stuff just that much more awesome (or, alternately, disappointing).Editing the news section of PasteMagazine.com also gets me hyped about forthcoming albums on a daily basis. From big...  read more

17 Things I Love, By Neko Case

Return to Paste 50 Neko Case Drives Us Batty.--1. Canada (and the Canadians therein) I just spent two months living in Toronto mixing my album. I sure did miss it! I haven’t lived there since ’98, so it was good to get back for an extended stay. The ladies who work upstairs in the studio had an election party. They weren’t kidding. Canada was voting Obama with bells on. People were crying and cheering, not just in our little corner, but all over the country. Canada was really rooting for us. I felt like the world still loved us after...  read more

Hideout Block Party, Day Two: The New Pornographers, Michael Jackson Tribute and more

image not available

[Above: The New Pornographers.] Ahhh, the CTA. Gotta love those delays and train station closings, right? The two-hour travel time to Hideout prevented the chance to see The Uglysuit and those that played before them, but nothing cools off an angry commuter like some free watermelon and a playful game of Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes with Tim Fite on a lovely Sunday. His lively hip-hop performance was one of the weekend's many kid-friendly offerings, which also included crafts, a Wee Hairy Beasties performance and a puppet show whose theater was rigged to a bike....  read more

Hideout Block Party, Day One: Neko Case, Monotonix, Black Mountain, and more

image not available

For twelve years, Hideout Block Party has signaled the wind-down of the summer festival season in Chicago. This year's solid lineup was matched by great weather (we’re all happy it wasn’t last weekend!). Shortened by a day this year, neither Sunday nor Saturday appeared to hit capacity, but still brought out sizable crowds that gathered in vast parking lot adjacent to the cozy Hideout confines to indulge in the diverse performances....  read more
