(JUST A FEW MORE REASONS TO HELP SAVE PASTE)Next week, I'll celebrate my 6th anniversary at this magazine. When I started as Paste's second-ever intern on June 1, 2003, we were still a tiny operation. Only five of us were in the office full-time: publisher Nick Purdy, editor Josh Jackson, assistant editor Jason Killingsworth, myself (who would go on to become associate editor) and my intern cohort, Steven Bevilaqua. Other important folks—like senior/film editor and future Paste president Tim Porter, design director JosĂ© Reyes, and future associate publisher Joe Kirk—were working part-time, since Paste couldn't yet support a full staff. Back then, we were in our... read more

In honor of this Friday night's presidential debate between John McCain and Barack Obama (the first of three)—and my obsession with politics as full-contact sport—I've compiled the following playlist to tell the story of the 2008 election so far. Whether you're red, blue, independent or other, enjoy.Part I: The Primaries “Changes” - David Bowie The Thin White Duke sings about what us young (and old) Americans want in Washington this year. ... read more

Lucky ol' Paste journeyed out to within view of the Golden Gate Bridge for the inaugural Slow Food Rocks music festival this past weekend. Festivalgoers enjoyed organic foods and wines plus 8 different beers from Paste-approved breweries Lagunitas (you gotta try their Farmhouse Saison) & Sierra Nevada. But the main event was the music... read more

A.C. Newman doesn't have any novel erotica for the masses just yet, but he's more than willing to serve up a guilty verdict on his own complicity in the erosion of Puritanical values. Specifically, Get Guilty, the second solo offering from the New Pornographer's leading man.... read more

This summer, it seems any place and any reason are game for a music festival. We've had Memorial Weekend Fest in Bend, Ore., Bang on a Can Marathon (N.Y.) and Israel @ 60 (D.C.) most recently. The Wordless Music Series (N.Y.) will be going on through the end of June, and Corndog-O-Rama (Atlanta) this month as well. We are celebrating things with song like never before, and honestly, it's pretty sweet.... read more

Welcome to The Gorge, y'all. Sasquatch 2008 is here and it's overwhelming. So, in an effort to trim it down to something semi-manageable, I'm going to be posting photos and blurbs of my experience in Washington this Memorial Day Weekend. Enjoy... Kathleen Edwards rocked with an immaculate band, spitting bile at the sun, particularly on set closer "The Cheapest Key." Edwards sang "B is for bullshit and you fed me some," but I'd argue that "B" is actually for "badass." She is just that.... read more
