There are a lot of songs out there—every artist runs the risk of doubling up on a title or two. Here are some of our favorite songs with the same titles. As you read this list, my fellow editor Steve is writing a song called "Stairway to Heaven" for his band Attractive Eighties Women. And it's not a cover.... read more

As we began to compile this list of the 50 Best Bob Dylan Covers of All Time—asking for input from Paste readers, writers and editors—someone suggested that it might be easier to compile a list of artists who haven't covered Dylan. I've listened to literally hundreds of Dylan covers over the course of the past week, trying to weigh choices like, "Who's version of 'Tomorrow Is a Long Time' is better, Nick Drake or Nickel Creek?" But I don't mean to make it sound like grueling work. My biggest take-away from this exercise is that going to Dylan for source... read more

Even 35 years after the death of Nick Drake, the gentle-voiced cult figure is still soothing tortured souls with his introspective folk music. Considering how fragile and introspective his music sounded, it's almost cringe-inducing to see how thoroughly the music industry has excavated, refurbished, and repackaged the work of Nick Drake in the more than 30 years since his untimely death. Then again, the guy did call the whole posthumous recognition thing well before it happened: "Forgotten while you're here / remembered for a while / a much updated ruin / from a much outdated style." These prescient words, taken from the Drake song "Fruit Tree," helped to inspire the 1979 compilation of the same name. Now, on Nov. 6, UME/Fontana is offering... read more

Singer-songwriter Nick Drake's tragically short career may have ended more than 30 years ago, but that isn't stopping the Englishman's estate manager from compiling an album of Drake's earliest known recordings. Slated for a June 19 release on Tsunami LG/Fontana, Family Tree features 26 songs made on a reel-to-reel tape recorder before his official debut, Five Leaves Left had even surfaced. The LP also includes two tracks, "Poor Mum" and "Try To Remember," recorded by Drake's mother Molly that highlight the musical influence she had on her gifted son. Also look for an upgraded version of The Fruit Tree Box... read more
