Super Happy Fun 3DS Time
Right now, the 3DS is probably the most expensive pedometer you can buy. Or at least, that’s what I’m using it for the most. I’ve taken 50,853 steps with it in the last two weeks. What’s keeping it in my pocket is the shallow hope I’ll bump into someone else with a 3DS so they can give me things. I love things.... read more

In the beginning, everything needs to be learned. Babies don’t even know how to breathe, and subsequent weeks and months are filled with the wonders of life, of encountering everything for the first time. If you’ve ever seen a baby in its crib, staring at its fingers as it clasps the air in front of its face, just beginning to understand that thoughts can move muscles, you might have some renewed sense of romance for learning. Imagine the strangeness of it: you have a thought in your head and miraculously something happens in your hand.... read more

I'm a sucker for anime hair, apparently. I continue to play games that at first blush would seem to be for a far younger audience, and I can only guess that I do it for the hair. Atlus is a favorite purveyor of my drug of choice, with their large catalog of both localized/published and self-developed properties, many of which lure me in with the promise of wildly-coiffed, spritely characters and punishing levels of dungeon crawling RPG goodness. Radiant Historia is but another in a long line of my fixes, and, like any addiction, the joy I feel at... read more

(DS)
Maybe I've taken my touch screen for granted. Five years ago I would have scoffed at the thought. “Who needs to touch a game?” I might have asked. “That's what controllers are for.” But after a passionate half-decade affair with Nintendo's inimitable handheld, I've grown to love all of its terrible, wonderful, completely unnecessary gimmicks. And when Dragon Quest VI teases me with giant bottom-screen buttons and icons that beg to be touched but don't react to my fingers, I can't help but wish the game had kept up with the times. ... read more

Re-Imagined as an 80's John Hughes Movie
1986 was a big year for teen comedies, seeing the release of two of John Hughes's most famous coming-of-age films, Pretty in Pink and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. 1986 was also a big year for videogames, as Nintendo owners everywhere were first introduced to Shigeru Miyamoto's now-classic adventure series The Legend of Zelda. Both the Zelda games and Hughes's films revolve around stories of youth, love, life, and coming of age, so we suppose it was only a matter of time before someone decided to see what would happen if the two combined.... read more
