About Paste

|
PASTE is one of the fastest-growing independently published music magazines in the country.  We pride ourselves in being the premier music magazine for people who still enjoy discovering new music, prize substance and songcraft over fads and manufactured attitude, and appreciate quality music across a broad stylistic spectrum--indie rock, Triple-A, Americana, folk, blues, jazz, etc.

We strive to bring readers thoughtful analysis on the best in music, film, books and other aspects of popular (and alternative) culture. Plus, every issue of PASTE contains a FREE sampler CD (packed with 20+ songs). The Paste Sampler CD is an invitation-only CD we treat as a glorified office mix-tape, not something to listen to once and rip the two or three good songs. What more could you want?

Now in our sixth year of publication, we've grown quickly with international distribution in over 12 countries. PASTE is available on newsstands all over the U.S. and Canada - including:

  • Borders
  • Barnes & Noble
  • Books-a-Million
  • Hastings
  • Joe Muggs
  • B. Dalton
  • Albertson's

And independent newsstands and music stores everywhere with more being added all the time. If you don't find us at your favorite store where music magazines are sold, then just ask. They are probably sold-out. In that case, you can always order from our online store.

We're also available in select stores in Europe including the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, France, Poland and more.

Paste invites readers to choose own subscription price

|

Beginning today, and continuing for the next two weeks, Paste will be offering one-year subscriptions, and readers — yes, you and you and you — can pay what you want! New subscribers can sign up, and loyal subscribers can renew online at PasteMagazine.com for a minimum payment of $1, though all are encouraged to pay what they think the subscription is worth. Anyone paying more than the $19.95 Paste typically offers for a one-year (11-issue) subscription will be thanked in print in a future issue of the magazine.

The campaign came about from a casual conversation at the Paste offices discussing the recent Radiohead campaign and the Jim Collins book, Good to Great. (We're all Level 6 around here.)

“We were curious to know what our customers thought we were worth. And what better way to find out, than to let them tell us?” explained Paste President/Publisher Tim Regan-Porter. “While it’s certainly a bit unconventional, we also see it as a chance to get our product in the hands of people who could become lifelong fans. It’s been our experience that once people become familiar with Paste, they turn into loyal readers.”

Interested readers can order multiple subscriptions to Paste, as long as there is a valid mailing address. Gift subscriptions encouraged! (That's right, cheapskate, now you can do all your Christmas shopping for 10 bucks. And you don't have to leave the website.)

And, as if you didn't already know, each issue of Paste comes with a CD sampler, so one subscription will give you 11 CDs of great music, in addition to the award-winning writing and entertainment coverage.

Voted “Magazine of the Year” by the PLUG Independent Music Awards for 2006 and 2007, and having won the Grand GAMMA Award (along with four Gold awards and one Silver award) at the 2007 GAMMA Awards, Paste is rapidly emerging as the go-to source for music and film aficionados.

DELL Teams Up With PASTE Magazine

|
Exclusive Sponsor of Video Content from Austin City Limits Festival

Decatur, GA (October, 2007) - Beginning Monday, October 15th, PASTE magazine’s web site, www.pastemagazine.com, will feature exclusive video content from the recent Austin City Limits music festival.  The content is being sponsored by The DELL Lounge—the first time DELL has worked with PASTE magazine.  As an official sponsor of the Austin City Limits music festival, PASTE captured video throughout the event from artists such as Bjork, Wilco, Arcade Fire, The Killers, Bloc Party, MIA, Cold War Kids, LCD Soundsystem, and many more.

The content will be available online at The PASTE Station (the www.pastemagazine.com location for audio/video content), and will consist of short form video (1 to 4 minutes in length) of actual performances, festival footage and artist interviews.  New videos will be posted daily and all videos will be archived within the PASTE site.

“Much like PASTE magazine, the ACL Festival always features an incredible and very diverse lineup of music, from big label headliners to up-and-coming independents,” explained PASTE President/Publisher Tim Regan-Porter.  “It’s great that companies like DELL are choosing to support quality artists, while connecting with consumers in a way that is both cool and engaging.”

In the December issue of PASTE magazine, DELL will be sponsoring the monthly sampler CD, which will feature a track from Homer Hiccolm & The Rocketboys, the band that won a contest to play at this year’s Austin City Limits music festival.

Paste Magazine Wins a Folio: Eddie Award for Editorial Excellence

|

Paste’s June/July 2006 Issue Earned Top Honors in the Consumer Magazine Entertainment Category

NEW YORK, NY (September 25, 2007)—Paste magazine’s June/July 2006 issue, “100 Best Living Songwriters,” earned top editorial honors at Folio: magazine’s 2007 Eddie and Ozzie Awards on Sunday evening at the Marriot Marquis in New York City. The Eddie awards recognize editorial excellence for consumer and business-to-business magazines.

This year’s competition drew almost 3,000 entries from all categories of magazines, making the awards the largest and most inclusive competition in the magazine industry.

Paste’s winning issue, “100 Best Living Songwriters,” earned the Gold award for best “Entertainment (Full Issue)” in the consumer division of the awards. Coming in behind Paste was Nickelodeon’s magazine, Nick, and Penton Media’s Remix.

“That was probably the most fun (and most work) that's ever gone into an issue,” said Editor-in-chief Josh Jackson. “And it's also the issue that garnered the biggest response from our readers. A year later, and we're still getting letters about who should have been on that list or who was overrated.”

Earlier this year, Paste won “Magazine of the Year” at the Plug Awards and was also awarded “The Grand GAMMA Award” at the 18th annual GAMMA Awards (as well as four other Gold GAMMA Awards for best consumer magazine, best design, best single issue and best cover). Paste was also named one of The Chicago Tribune's “50 Best Magazines” in 2007.

The award-winning “100 Best Living Songwriters” cover story is available at: http://www.pastemagazine.com/action/article/2976/feature/music/pastes_100_best_living_songwriters.  A complete list of winners is available at: http://www.foliomag.com/page.asp?prmID=390
