Patterson Hood and DBT release "election week gift" song

|
Eight years after co-founding the Drive-By Truckers during Bill Clinton's re-election bid, Patterson Hood found himself diving headlong into Bush II's second go-round. He was not happy. "I was in a state of semi-shock and near-depression as my daughter's birth was impending," wrote Hood in an e-mail statement, "and I was depressed to think of her born into the world during a Bush Presidency."

Book Festival brings music, art, beer and, oh yeah, books to Decatur

|

Last Friday evening, 1,000 people lined up to witness the Decatur Book Festival’s keynote address by former United States Poet Laureate Billy Collins. The New York native, whom the AJC termed “thoughtful and hilarious,” is one of the most recognized names in contemporary poetry. Though this year’s festival was only the third annual, Collins headed a powerhouse list of featured authors-- and he apparently had the sold-out audience rolling in their seats. That was just the beginning of a weekend that saw the streets of Decatur teeming with literature enthusiasts, despite the oppressive heat.

Patterson Hood, Drive-By Trucker, Athens, Ga. musical mainstay, and supporter of education, has scheduled a handful of solo dates around the Southeast in between his band's solid month of touring. Hood and the Truckers are riding the road laid down by their January 22 release, Brighter Than Creation's Dark, but he's got tunes of his own to transport to the populace.
