(JUST A FEW MORE REASONS TO HELP SAVE PASTE)In a little more than two weeks, I'll celebrate my 6th anniversary at this magazine. When I started as Paste's second-ever intern on June 1, 2003, we were still a tiny operation. Only five of us were in the office full-time: publisher Nick Purdy, editor Josh Jackson, assistant editor Jason Killingsworth, myself (who would go on to become associate editor) and my intern cohort, Steven Bevilaqua. Other important folks—like senior/film editor and future Paste president Tim Porter, design director José Reyes, and future associate publisher Joe Kirk—were working part-time, since Paste couldn't... read more

This morning I chatted with Mates of State about adding instruments to their live shows and touring with kids--they bring their baby June and four-year-old Magnolia everywhere they go. They needed something to protect the baby's ears during shows and couldn't find mini-headphones at a music store, so they had to buy some for June at a firing range! A baby in headphones is one of life's cuter things.... read more

On a chilly New York evening this past February, Patty Griffin premiered songs from her new album, Children Running Through, to an invitation-only crowd. Performed in the intimate confines of the Artists Den, the gig was one of those one-time only events that most Griffin fans only heard about secondhand from raving friends. On Oct. 30, however, ATO Records and Artists Den Entertainment will release a DVD documenting the performance in high definition. By that point, Griffin and her band had only played a few clubs in other parts of the country, and were still getting their set together. She... read more
