Radiohead's pre-Rainbows output gets boxed
Radiohead may be leaving the Parlophone imprint for stranger pastures, but that's not preventing the group from revisiting/cashing in on its output from that label one more time. On Dec. 10 (one week after the discbox version of In Rainbows ships to Radiohead geeks worldwide), the band will reissue its first six studio albums (and one live EP) as a limited edition box set. Following that much-hyped In Rainbows launch, this release feels alarmingly traditionalist. The box set comes in three versions: the physical 'brick' version (priced at £40), a digital download (£35), or a creepy-ass USB stick shaped... read more
Found in: Music, NewsRadiohead signs with XL for In Rainbows distribution
Radiohead. We've spoken, typed, and thought that one band name so much throughout the month of October that it has ceased to have meaning. What is a Radiohead, anyway? I mean, have you ever really thought about it? Ponder that, and ponder this: Radiohead's digital opus In Rainbows will receive physical distribution outside of North America courtesy of XL Recordings. Thom Yorke's solo debut, The Eraser, went out on XL last year. Evidently, Yorke enjoyed working with those folks. As Billboard.com reports it, there's no word yet on a release date for the In Rainbows CD, but it will most... read more

Just in case you've spent the last couple months in a cave on Mars with your eyes shut and your fingers in your ears, there is this band called Radiohead and it's doing stuff! The latest comes from Billboard's report that the iconic British group will set forth across our great world in 2008. But you don't have to take our word for it. Witness this, straight from the mouth of Bryce Edge of Radiohead's handlers, Courtyard Management: "We plan to tour next year, starting in May through to probably the end of the year -- with lots of holidays... read more
Found in: Music, NewsReport: Radiohead downloads top 1 million
Gigwise, surely you doth jest. While media pundits out there are scratching their chins, wondering just how well this kooky In Rainbows experiment will work for Radiohead, the Gigwise.com homepage is boldly displaying some pretty staggering numbers. Namely: 1.2 million digital copies of In Rainbows sold. Average sale price: £4, making for about £4.8 million in sales that the gentlemen of Radiohead get to keep mostly for themselves. Yeah. And that's apparently not taking discbox sales (£40 a pop) or future CD sales into account. Damn. The source on all this? An insider who's "close to the band." Ah, one... read more
Found in: Music, NewsPoll: Radiohead's In Rainbows: What did you pay?
Wakey, wakey, rise and shine... We know you're already having a great day. You jumped on Radiohead's fantastic pay-what-you-want offer, didn't you? You were part of this morning's throng, giddily still awake at around 1:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time when it felt like the entirety of the Internet went apeshit. There is one thing we don't know, though: how much you ponied up for the seventh album from arguably the... read more
Found in: Music, NewsFallout over Radiohead's In Rainbows continues
We've said it before, and we'll probably say it several more times between now and Oct. 10: Radiohead's "pay what you want" digital release of In Rainbows is one of the more interesting and potentially important album launches of our time. Say what you will about past Radiohead coverage - the constant incremental updates, hyperbole, and rumor-mongering - this one actually matters. So as the entire web-music infrastructure marshals its resources to report, discuss, and analyze the phenomenon, we'll be trying to keep readers up to date with it all. First off today, Billboard.com reports that - surprise! - the... read more
Found in: Music, NewsRadiohead to release new album digitally on Oct. 10
Oh what a month it’s been in the exciting world of Radiohead spotting! First Jonny Greenwood told us that the band's new album was in the bag. Then came the über-cryptic website RadioheadLP7.com with its doomsday countdown, prompting hope of an imminent album-related announcement. And then came the Rick Roll. With their hopes so cruelly dashed, Radiohead obsessives cursed the black world that gave birth to red-headed soul singers and retreated to their darkened caves. But only two days after that great tragedy comes the ultimate Radiohead epiphany: a new album title, track listing, and pre-order information. It is not... read more
Found in: Music, NewsMysterious Radiohead site = hoax
Earlier this week, Pitchfork tipped us to a mysterious, possibly Radiohead-related website, RadioheadLP7.com. The site might be a hoax, but that’s not stopping it from generating a commotion among album-starved Radiohead fans. And now, a countdown is ticking away on the website. Tomorrow (Sept. 29) at 10 a.m. EST, something may or may not happen related to Radiohead and the new album. Maybe. We think. Go ahead, laugh, but we bet many of you will be refreshing the website like a maniac tomorrow morning. UPDATE (3:46 p.m.): The diligent folks at Billboard report that the site is a hoax, by... read more
Found in: Music, NewsRadiohead's new album is finished...now what?
Radiohead fans waiting patiently for the band’s next album may not have to wait too much longer – or they may. First, the good news: Guitarist Jonny Greenwood confirmed to Paste that the album is done. The not-so-good news is that the band has no idea when fans will be able to hear it. “We just had a meeting about that today,” said Greenwood on September 7. “We’re very relieved to have finished recording, now we have to decide what we should do with it.” Radiohead completed its six-album contract with EMI with 2003’s Hail to the Thief and is... read more
