Shameless Review (1.10)

Shameless Review (1.10)

At times Shameless plays like a Shakespearean comedy, albeit a black one. But there’s an even darker side to this wildly dysfunctional family, none darker than Frank’s abhorrent treatment of his own children—that is, until their mom shows up.... read more

Archer Review: "Tragical History" (2.6)

Archer Review: "Tragical History" (2.6)

Last week’s Archer explored the storied history of Sterling’s faithful butler Woodhouse. The week before, Lana took the forefront. Continuing the trend, this week is Cyril’s turn.... read more

Archer Review: "The Double Deuce" (2.5)

Archer Review: "The Double Deuce" (2.5)

Rapidly approaching the half way point of Season Two, Archer gives us a glimpse into the storied history of Sterling’s faithful butler, Woodhouse. It’s no secret that Archer truly shines when the majority of the action takes place in the ISIS office, and that I disparage episodes lacking in that regard, but this week we make an exception. Because let’s be honest, Woodhouse is awesome.... read more

Californication Review: "Lights. Camera. Asshole" (Episode 4.08)

Californication Review: "Lights. Camera. Asshole" (Episode 4.08)

In “Lights, Camera, Asshole,” we find Hank caught in the crossfires his usual antics once again in an entertaining, but relatively superficial episode. Sasha is back on board thanks to Eddie Nero and Fucking and Punching seems to be moving full steam ahead. Not only that, but Sasha has asked for Hank to “polish her dialogue” on her upcoming blockbuster zombie-cop action thriller sequel. Hank’s a skeptic as always—until he learns that the one-week gig will reap a nice little paycheck of $100,000.... read more

Archer Review: "Pipeline Fever" (2.4)

Archer Review: "Pipeline Fever" (2.4)

Imminent ecological disaster? No problem. Sterling Archer is on the case. This week’s episode of Archer sees Sterling and Lana sent to New Orleans to stop an eco-terrorist from bombing a gas pipeline; a misguided move that would actually end up destroying the ecosystem of the swamp. The good news, Sterling is back to his old ways, caring far more about taking a vacation and living out his Burt Reynolds-in-White Lightning fantasy than saving the wetlands. The better news, that’s an awesome fantasy. I mean, air boats? They’re awesome.... read more

Californication Review: "Monkey Business" (Episode 4.04)

Californication Review: "Monkey Business" (Episode 4.04)

As much of Californication’s appeal on the surface comes from the sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll it portrays, the show’s strong suit has always been its characters. Once you got beyond all the careless debauchery and self-destruction by Hank and company, there has been a certain authenticity exuded throughout the show’s storyline. Throughout Season 4, however, the writing has started to turn away from the formula Californication was so successful at. The character depth is still present on some levels, but in “Monkey Business,” a noticeable void emerges.... read more

Californication Review: "Home Sweet Home" (Episode 4.03)

In “Home Sweet Home,” Hank wakes up from his accidental overdose in the hospital with a pumped stomach and a condescending doctor breathing down his throat. “Guess what asshole?” his doctor snidely barks at Hanks. “There’s no such thing as a good looking corpse.” But after a rude awakening, Karen shows up sympathetically at Hank’s hospital bedside, much to the Hank’s surprise, and takes him back to their humble abode.... read more

The Office Review: "Classy Christmas" (Episode 7.11)

The Office Review: "Classy Christmas" (Episode 7.11)

This Christmas, the halls of Dunder Mifflin were decked with Holly. Decked BY Holly is probably more accurate, given the metaphorical punch to the face she delivered to Michael Scott by revealing she's maintaining a long-distance relationship with her boyfriend.... read more
