We knew about Hendrix, Ozzy and a handful of other artists on the track list. But now we have the press release in hand, and it includes 86 songs on-disk, featuring artists like R.E.M., Michael Jackson, Metallica, Coldplay, Nirvana, Interpol, Foo Fighters, Billy Idol, Beastie Boys and Dinosaur Jr., among others.

rock band lead Who hasn't gone to an awesome live show and thought, "I want that! I want to rock that hard!" only to quickly realize that the last instrument you attempted to master was the recorder in third grade. (We're shaking our fists at you, "Frere Jacques.")

Guitar Hero: World Tour adds instruments, downloads, more

|
Don’t expect the Guitar Hero franchise to stop growing any time soon.  The latest news regarding the hugely popular game series confirms the earlier information Activision CEO Bobby Kotick discussed in an interview with Portfolio magazine regarding the increased instruments and selection of the new game. According to news confirmed by Activision, the upcoming installment of the game will feature vocals and drums instead of just a guitar, a newly redesigned guitar and wireless instruments. Differing slightly from Rock Band, Guitar Hero: World Tour will have three instead of four drum pads and the addition of two cymbals. But wait, there’s more!

The Southern Comfort Music Experience (SCMX) is making its way around the country and Paste is on board to provide a firsthand account of the goings on. Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta served as the kick-off venue for this year’s SCMX series.  Other cities include: Denver, Colo., San Diego, Calif., Madison, Wis., Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and Tempe, Ariz.

First up for the afternoon was an interesting collective introduced as the ‘best rock band out of Boston” called Bang Camaro. Bringing back the glory days of Dokken and Winger, the band featured a chorus of seven singers and had a unique stage set-up - three guitarists and a bass player front and center with seven singers lined up behind their axemen.  With songs titled “Pleasure, Pleasure” and "Rock of Mages," these boys don’t disappoint if you’ve got an affinity for Schlock Rock. Their synchronized headbanging coupled with in-unision fist pumping would make any PBR guzzler proud.  If the following lyrics are any example, these metalheads from Beantown know how to rock.

Rock Band coming to Nintendo Wii in June

|

Hypothetical musicians, it may be time to get out your (fake) drum set and (real) drumsticks! It’s official: Rock Band, the video game that has already won awards for its PlayStation and XBox versions, will be released on June 22 for the Wii.

Although at first it seemed that Nintendo was not quite interested in pairing up with Harmonix Music Systems, the geniuses also responsible for Guitar Hero, they gradually warmed up to the idea. Lots of speculation was involved, including a cross-platform mic coming out mistakenly labeled as Wii-compatible.

The game will be released as a special edition package, including the drums, the guitar and the mic, for $169.99. But don’t go find a line to wait in just yet. The Wii version will not yet include the online or downloadable material included with the other formats, but will include five undisclosed additional songs.

A lot of bloggers are saying they won’t spend any money on the Wii version to play the same songs over and over again when they could have endless fun on the Xbox or PlayStation. It seems only time will tell if the dog days of summer find gamers virtually rocking out with a white box or a black box.
