Lupe Fiasco to retire following three-disc album?

It's a tale all too common in the hip-hop world today: a rapper claiming retirement. We've been there with Jay-Z. We idly sat by while M.I.A. said she was bowing out for good (this before the explosion of "Paper Planes"). Now it might be Lupe Fiasco's turn.

Danny Boyle keen to direct second 28 Days Later sequel

Back in September, Danny Boyle told MTV News he had an idea for a sequel to 28 Weeks Later, but said it “might be silly” and that he hadn’t run it by anyone officially. Since then there have been assorted rumors about possible directors and plot ideas, but perhaps unsurprisingly, no confirmations.

Fox plans another Planet of the Apes reboot?

Right around the time Mark Wahlberg started to make out with an ape-suited Helena Bonham Carter in Tim Burton’s remake of Planet of the Apes (pictured above), it was clear 20th Century Fox had failed to reignite the old franchise. The movie posted decent numbers, but even with a gotcha twist ending that suggested the possibility of another movie, it felt distinctly like a one-time gig.

Jagger, Bowie and Elton collaborating for 2012 Olympics?

Supergroups can be a tricky beast. Sometimes, they bring out best in everyone involved. Other times, they're an experiment best left in the lab. Either way, the allure of so much star power in a single place can often be too much to resist. So despite our best efforts to raise a cynical eyebrow on this one, it looks, well, kinda fun: Mick Jagger is angling for a star-studded collaboration with David Bowie and Elton John for the 2012 Olympics in London.

Christopher Nolan says he's tentative on Dark Knight sequel

The blitz of sequel rumors that followed The Dark Knight’s release this summer have been silenced a number of times, mostly because director Christopher Nolan spent the second half of his summer off the coast of Florida with his family. And in a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, Nolan, back home, confirmed that he hasn’t decided on any direction for Batman—or if he wants to return to the franchise at all.

The Smiths deny Coachella 2009 reunion rumors

The tradition of the Coachella Festival in Indio, Calif. reuniting bands is now legendary. As the story goes, the festival organizers were having a hard time getting a headlining band in 2001, so they found a friend to convince Jane's Addiction to get back together and play. Since then, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Pixies, Bauhaus, Gang of Four, Rage Against the Machine, The Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine have all rejoined for the festival.

Simon Pegg, Nick Frost rumored for Tintin adaptation

The Tintin movie is back from the dead. After a financing hiccup and rumors of the project being canned, the Steven Spielberg/Peter Jackson stop-motion extravaganza is assembling a cast and preparing to begin shooting. Based around the French-language graphic novel series Les Aventures de Tintin by Belgian author Hergé, the film promises to be a fairly faithful adaptation of the titular character's globe-spanning adventures. Much like the film's rebirth, details about the movie are emerging out of nowhere, including scuttlebutt that Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz alums Simon Pegg and Nick Frost may have landed some choice parts.

New Dark Knight sequel rumors shot down almost instantly

Here we go again. It hasn't even been two months since The Dark Knight opened in theaters and it's already a chore to keep up with the hype on the sequel—which, by the way, hasn't even been confirmed yet. Who? When? How? Cher as Catwoman!? (Or is that Angelina Jolie?)

Russell Crowe to star in Bill Hicks biopic?

Australian actor (and sometime rocker) Russell Crowe talked briefly with the Sydney Morning Herald last week about a project he is working on based on the life of the late comedian Bill Hicks.

Crowe, who is currently on break after filming for Ridley Scott's Nottingham, which was postponed until March '09, has not confirmed that he is set to star as Hicks in the biopic but is rumored to be considering taking on the role. If the Aussie does portray Hicks, he will be at least 10 years older than the comedian was at the time of his death in 1994. The actor did tell the paper that the film is still in the very early stages and is "going from treatment to draft stage with Kiwi writer Mark Staufer."

New U2 album peeks over the Horizon in November

Chances are, if you're reading this story, you're a U2 fan. Not merely because a news item with the phrase "New U2 album" in its headline tends to attract followers of Bono and Co., but also because U2 is a quintessential Paste band. Just look at that poll on the lefthand side of your screen (scroll down a bit...to the bottom of the page). That poll was supposed to be about Brian Eno, but those sneaky Irish gentlemen up and stole the whole show! At the time of this writing, The Joshua Tree is straight up annihilating its Eno-affiliated competition by a margin of 19% or more. Well played, U2. Well. Played.

Pineapple Express/Superbad crossover in the works?

A crossover between two of Judd Apatow's most recent comedies might seem like it's jumping the gun a little bit, or that it's the product of a hash session between the stars of Pineapple Express. Of course, that doesn't change the fact that it sounds like a totally awesome idea.
