What isn't Spike Lee working on these days?  Between a slew of documentaries, collaborations, and receiving critical acclaim for said work, you gotta wonder when the dude finds time to sleep. Fortunately, that hasn't stopped the man born Shelton Jackson Lee from doing the right thing...that is, if the right thing involves helping to revive a meritorious but fiscally-floundering Broadway show. Spike Lee to collaborate with filmmakers for Nokia project

Spike Lee will direct a film comprised entirely of footage, text and music submitted by everyday people, Reuters reports. The latest Lee joint will focus on the way music tells the story of humanity, and will be constructed in three acts. Lee is helming the as-yet-untitled film for Nokia Productions as a collaborative effort that may push the boundaries of user-generated content past YouTube territory into uncharted waters. The ever-controversial Spike Lee recently spoke with the Italian press and announced the subject of his upcoming film. “If you look at the history of Hollywood, the black soldiers who fought World War II are totally invisible,” said Lee. “This is the paradox: black people who were fighting for democracy but at the same time were second class citizens at home.” To respond to this problematic absence, Lee plans on directing a film about the efforts of the predominately African American 92nd Infantry Division's efforts during World War II against Nazis and fascism in Italy, adapted from James McBride’s Miracle...  read more
