Us music geeks love making Top 5 lists. It helps us deal with and understand this big scary world. Writer Nick Hornby understood this when he wrote the novel High Fidelity. As did John Cusack and director Stephen Frears when they made the movie version. Today, in Paste's List of the Day, we divulge our Desert-Island All-Time Top 5 Most-Memorable Top 5 Lists from the film version of High Fidelity.

List of the Day

In honor of this Friday night's presidential debate between John McCain and Barack Obama (the first of three)—and my obsession with politics as full-contact sport—I've compiled the following playlist to tell the story of the 2008 election so far. Whether you're red, blue, independent or other, enjoy.

Part I: The Primaries

“Changes” - David Bowie

The Thin White Duke sings about what us young (and old) Americans want in Washington this year.

Stevie Wonder to honor mother with next LP

|

Like the good son that he is, Motown magnate Stevie Wonder plans to produce his next musical venture as an ode to his mother, who passed away not more than a year and a half ago. Tentatively titled The Gospel Inspired by Lula, the musical icon hopes to have the album out by January of 2008, the same month his mother would have celebrated her 77th birthday.

"It's the not traditional gospel," Wonder recently told Billboard.com. "It's gonna have a wide spectrum, I can tell you that much. I might do a song in Arabic. I might do one in Hebrew. I might do one in Zulu. I might do one that sort of has an East Indian feel to it. It will be songs of celebration, really."

Wonder performed Friday night at Atlanta's Chastain Park, and will finish out the rest of his tour dates with shows in Baltimore, Boston and New York City before the end of the month.

"If it's not good enough," Wonder added, commenting on the fast-approaching release date, "I might not put it out. You know how we roll."

Yes we do. See him roll via 1973's "Superstition" below:

Roll on, Stevie, roll on...
