Suzanne Vega becomes an avatar, then writes about who made her. We don’t know what that really means, either, but last summer, Vega’s appearance on the Infinite Mind public radio show was turned into a virtual concert on the internet virtual world Second Life. She returned the favor by writing a feature on Second Life creator Philip Rosedale in this week’s Time Magazine. “I already knew what an avatar was. Blue Note Records has announced the details of Suzanne Vega’s new LP, Beauty & Crime, set to be released internationally on June 5th and in the US on July 17th, 2007. On this, the seventh album of her 20+ year career but her first with Blue Note, Vega pays homage to her hometown of New York City, where she grew up and currently resides. Among the eleven tracks are obvious tributes “Ludlow Street” and “New York Is A Woman” as well as “Bound” (written for Vega’s husband) and “As You Are Now” (written for her daughter).
