Ted Leo Signs to Matador, Preps Album for 2010

Ted Leo Signs to Matador, Preps Album for 2010

Ted Leo, whom you may know as one of Paste's Musicians to Follow on Twitter, has had some record-label trouble during the course of his career. After watching a couple imprints he was on fold (RIP, Lookout! and Touch and Go), he's landed on one that will hopefully be around for a good, long while. As announced on the label's blog today, Leo is now a member of the Matador roster....  read more

20 More Musicians To Follow On Twitter

20 More Musicians To Follow On Twitter

Since last we scanned the Twitterverse for our favorite musicians, Trent Reznor has given up the Twitter ghost, but plenty of other musicians have begun updating in his place. These are just some of my favorites. 1. Camera Obscura - camera_obscura_ This Scottish band has released one of my favorite albums this year. Best recent tweet: Just been to collect my bike. Sometimes, cycling in Glasgow is a lot like the escape scene at the start of Raiders of the Lost Ark. K Runner-up: Amsterdam to glasgow. 90 mins spent in full view of a filthy urchin feasting gleefully on...  read more

Six Albums to Get Excited About in 2009

Six Albums to Get Excited About in 2009

When I wrote my Five Movies to Get Excited About in 2009 list a couple weeks ago, ostensibly, I was providing a reader service. But really, I was getting as pumped up about those movies as anyone reading that post. In fact, I'm listening to Ready to Die right now, looking forward to taking in a showing of Notorious this weekend. Looking forward to stuff is fun, and it makes actually experiencing said stuff just that much more awesome (or, alternately, disappointing).Editing the news section of PasteMagazine.com also gets me hyped about forthcoming albums on a daily basis. From big...  read more

Ted Leo releases benefit EP, talks new album

Since 2007's Living With the Living, Ted Leo has been out there, well, living. He spent some time stumping for Obama, rocking out in the name of populism, and cutting split 7-inches with screwball comedians. Leo was never one to rest easy for too long though, so it's back to the studio for he and his merry band of Pharmacists for a new LP that could be out as early as next Spring. The group has "almost a whole album written" Leo told Billboard.com, "some of which I'm happy with and some of which I think we'll probably want to...  read more

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists tour with Against Me!

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists tour with Against Me!

Maybe Ted Leo can see the future. He and his merry band of Pharmacists released the single "Bomb.Repeat.Bomb" from their 2007 album Living With The Living (#19 on Paste's Signs of Life for that year). Few song titles in the history of the world have sounded more like an Against Me! b-side than "Bomb.Repeat.Bomb." And now, a mere year later, the two groups are teaming up for a fall tour. ...  read more

Listen to Ted Leo's new turlet-talking song

Listen to Ted Leo's new turlet-talking song

You Ain’t No Picasso has posted an MP3 of the new Ted Leo track “The World is in the Turlet” that recently premiered on Jersey City’s WFMU, having lovingly ganked it from the station’s forum. “You know, I used to tease my Georgia-raised dad for his occasional pronouncing the bathroom’s main feature as ‘turlet,’” YANP claims, but such dialect is actually more regional to almost anywhere but Georgia (urban dictionary claims Philly, Indiana and the Midwest, some websites say New Jersey or certain N.Y.C. boroughs, FYI)....  read more

Ted Leo covers Abba with Ben Gibbard, talks Van Halen

It's been a a little while since Ted Leo hit the road for a proper tour, but the head Pharmacist is about to do just that. After playing a pair of sold out St. Paddy's Day shows with Dropkick Murphys in Massachusetts, Leo will head overseas to spend April in Ireland, Scotland and England. Must be nice! Not one to sit around, Leo's been staying busy in the non-touring season. Just the other day, he joined Ben Gibbard and Patton Oswalt (click for videos of, amongst other things, Leo, Gibbard, Oswalt and WFMU's Tom Scharpling covering Abba's "Take a Chance...  read more

Ted Leo gets rough in “Colleen” video

image not available

It’s hard to watch the latest video from Ted Leo & the Pharmacists without entertaining the fact that ol' Tedder might just have something to prove. And who could blame him? The undeniable (though often less than desirable) hardcore-ness of his punk genre cohorts—what with their gigantic necks and murder charges and all—is enough to give any aspiring badass an inferiority complex. Plus, if you’ve ever actually Googled the phrase “ted leo + badass,” you might have noticed that very few of the top results actually reference Leo himself, but instead heap the superlative upon things like Jedi warriors, cheese...  read more
